“great for our budget and for what we needed!”
Reviewed January 16, 2011

The B and B is located on a quiet street. we had a room for five with a bathroom, kitchen area and tables and chairs. The room was cleaned every day and and we had plenty of clean towels for the five of us. The staff were all really helpful, especially Scott we gave us some tips about being a tourist in New York and staying safe. He also helped us on our last day when we were leaving and were having issues with the taxi we had booked. The free breakfast was lovely and very much needed as we students living off a very limited budget! Close to the subway. Neighbourhood was fine, people walking up and down the streets were friendly and helpful to us one day when our subway stop was closed and told us where to go for the alternative route! If you're on a budget I would definitely recommend this place for you!

This is a HOSTEL, people! Traveling European 20somethings sitting on the stoop smoking; Ikea-style furnished rooms with cheap beds and a shared, not very clean bathrooms for which you will have to wait and wait and wait to use; noisy parties in the backyard til all hours; dusty ACs that will make you sneeze all night; a cheap refrigerator in the room that makes a loud hum all night; a proprietor who isn't even around to let you in, and crappy croissants and tasteless oranges for breakfast. The only good thing I can say about this place is that the linens and towels were clean.I truly think the other reviews on Trip Advisor for this place are rigged. I felt duped by them, and by the photos on this place's website, which make the place seem WAY nicer than it really is. Do NOT expect a "cosy B and B experience." This is seriously a straight up hostel.

The Harlem Bed & Breakfast is as good as the website promises (and that's a compliment!). Clean, comfortable beds, large and nicely decorated rooms and quality breakfast. It has a very homely atmosphere, I like it. Scott is really into delivering good service, and it works. He didn't mind printing our boarding passes, for instance. It's easy to reach too: only 3 stops away from Times Square if you take the no. 2 or 3 subway. Next time I'm in NYC I'll certainly stay there again and I would recommend friend to do so too.

We stayed at the Harlem B&B after becoming stranded in NYC due to the volcanic ash cloud. It was a struggle to find somewhere to stay in Manhattan at such short notice, but Scott managed to squeeze us in and couldn't have been more accommodating.
Our room was spacious, clean and very homely. We had free wifi and were provided with free tea/coffee/water all day.
The area is very friendly and quiet for Manhattan. The subway is five minutes walk away - it's so easy to explore the rest of the city and enjoy the nightlife from this fantastic location.

It was just like having our own little apartment . You would be crazy not to stay here if there is availability. The neighborhood is great and the people are friendly. A 5 minute walk to the subway station and from there, the city is yours to discover. A great breakfast of superb pastries was a great way to start the day. Don't expect luxury when you stay here, but you can expect a warm reception and to be treated like a friend throughout your stay. Scott and Maxcine have done a wonderful job of creating an inviting atmosphere for travelers who want to experience New York City and Harlem.

We spent four nights at Harlem B&B and our stay would not have been perfect if it wasn't for Scott and his hospitality. Our room which had a BIG private bathroom, a couch, a table with two chairs, a closet and a great bed was clean and we even got new fresh towels every morning. Scott provides breakfast which includes the best croissants and muffins of NYC, organic coffee and tea, bread, cheese, jam and....! There is so much of everything that you even can pack your own lunch box (Good thing since NYC is not the cheapest place to be!). You can have coffee sitting at the porch and watch Harlem life which is lively, safe and mellow. Scott is a very nice man who cares about his guests and does his best to make their stay as good as possible. The property is in best neighborhood. Only 5 minutes walk to subway (trains number 2 and 3. Three stations to Times Square.) and 10 minutes walk to northern Central Park. There are several small supermarkets nearby so what do you want more?
We totally recommend Harlen Bed and Breakfast. Enjoy your stay in great NYC.
