Owner description: Authentic Experiences to the heart of New York City! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well. All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged. Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years. Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city during the day or night to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods at your pace and focusing on your interests.

We had a great night with Gordon. He brought us to 3 very different places with different kind of atmosphere, all very relaxed in a small group. Thanks a lot!

In Jan of 2013 I took 11 students to NYC for a 24 hour whirlwind Big Apple Jazz Tour. I loved it and the kids loved it. Gordon was well aware of what would be educational AND excite the kids (and the chaperones as well!). We did quite a bit in 24 hours, and so did it again in Jan of 2014. Can't wait to do it again! This was part of a course I teach every January called "All That Jazz"

We joined Gordon on his Harlem Juke Joint Tour in Oct 2012 and it was so worthwhile! Gordon was a brilliant host: personable, interesting and he struck a good balance between sharing great insights through-out the evening and leaving us to kick back and savour the experience. I felt lucky that we had a couple of seriously musical folk in our small group of 10 - their questions and discussions with Gordon resulted in some great stories and history that we simply wouldn't have thought to discover.
Our small group caught the subway. Despite needing umbrellas for the occasional rain shower, it was fantastic to walk around Harlem with a local. Definitely take comfy shoes - you're going for the music and the experience (not a fashion show!).
We went to 3 clubs during the evening, each with quite different vibes and styles - but all worthwhile. One small club was in a brownstone that we could never have discovered on our own, and it was just like stepping back in time - despite clearly not being locals, we felt welcome and privileged to sit in on more intimate experiences thanks to Gordon’s knowledge and connections. To top off our trip, Gordon arranged for a talented member of our group to jump on the piano - once they dusted off the old upright, this guy absolutely ripped it and this made our experience so personal and memorable.
The food wasn’t so memorable on our tour - but the jazz and the experience was great. A truly unique and interesting trip that we would never have known how to discover without Gordon's generous guidance - Thanks!

We reserved a tour with Gordon this weekend - the Sunday tour, his best one! We were the only 2 people to sign up for this tour, and Gordon usually needs 6, but he took pity on us and gave us the tour anyway!! He did not bring his minivan, which was practical since there were only 2 of us, but we travelled on subway and by cab. It is very sad that some of the sacred historical jazz sites have been torn down - Cotton Club, the Savoy ballroom, etc - but Gordon took us to all these sites as well as the site of the "tree of Hope". As we walked thru the neighborhood, we were stopped frequently to greet local friends of Gordon - he has quite a network in Harlem. We visited 3 different local venues, all wonderful and varied, and places we never would have found on our own. Highly recommend!

We had a truly memorable private tour of Harlem jazz venues with our excellent guide, Gordon. As a family of musicians/jazz lovers, we especially enjoyed being taken off the beaten track to venues which tourists to NYC would never ordinarily find. Gordon's knowledge of jazz and NYC is immense, and he is a relaxed and engaging guide. We were warmly received in Harlem, and enjoyed meeting a variety of jazz musicians, who treated us like family. Good soul food, great company, brilliant atmosphere and burning jazz! We were grateful that Gordon suggested a hired car for our tour, which allowed us to see a greater variety of sights. Gordon's tours are not to be missed, and definitely worth repeating every time you visit! /The Murning family
