This new hotel is clean, crisp and comfortable. It has an excellent gym and the rooms have a large business desk with plenty of power outlets and space for computers, phones, rechargers, cables, brief case, papers etc. The closets are large, the bathroom is spacious and well appointed and the bed and furnishings were extremely comfortable and pleasant.
The hotel is quiet and secluded even though it is in the centre of the financial district right next to the crater where once the World Trade Center stood. There was no restaurant open during my stay in March 2010 but the hotel provided a complimentary continental breakfast which I did not want but which appeared to be generous and satisfactory. Wholefoods and many excellent bars, diners and restaurants were located within a five to ten minute walk away. I would never have thought of Wall Street as a "Nite Spot" I was astonished by the number of bars and restaurants (all looking sad and empty) which remained open until after midnight in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The river and Battery Park are literally across the street and the Century 21 discount department store is three city blocks away.
I booked my room on a “no names” hotel discount website and paid just over $100. At this sort of reduced rate The World Center is an excellent deal in terms of location, comfort and amenities. The hotel advertises on the major discount hotel sites too. Because it is an apartment hotel, without the usual facilities, some discount websites describe it as a three and a half star hotel in the Downtown/Soho area, but the rooms themselves rate more than 4 stars and the full-price “rack rate” reflects this.
As with so many hotels in New York the front desk staff was indifferent and unhelpful. This hardly mattered because checking in and out is an automated process, rendering most of the front desk’s role redundant, but it was annoying and inconvenient when phone calls were not put through and messages were not delivered.
