“Comfort for affordable rates”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

Starting with the location, it`s located in an wonderful place, just 3 blocks from a subway station on Broadway. So, it's pretty safe to walk in and out there at night. I did this several times during my stay. Another good reason to stay here is that the rooms were fully renovated, despite the fact that the building is centenary. I also point out that I used the option with shared bathroom, which was very clean and comfortable. The only difference from other hotels I already stayed is that the shared bathroom is available for only one person at a time, because the shower are integrated with the lavatory. The front desk was always kind and available for anything I needed. There`s WiFi Internet access in the lobby and inside the room. Considering everything, I highly recommend Hotel 99.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the beginning of the alley, because it`s were the shared bathrooms are located.

Comfortable room with nice location. Staffs are friendly and helpful.

I and my friend stayed in a twin room, bathrooms are shared with other guests.

Reasonable price and it is good for budget limited backpackers.

I have just returned from spending a month at the Hotel 99 and am ready to reserve for next year.
Rating this hotel is difficult as I couldn't compare it with the usual expensive Manhattan hotels.
First of all, the location at 99th and Broadway on the upper west side was perfect. It is three minutes from the 96th St. subway and bus stop which is a major terminal serving fast, limited routes (3 stops to Times Square) and seven minutes by bus across Central Park to Fifth Avenue.
I am a mature single woman, here to have a long term visit with grandchildren and friends.
Many of the guests were Columbia graduate students and visiting groups from Italy and Holland, whose presence was delightful.
The hotel had been totally refurbished in the in past year with new lovely bathrooms, tiled to the ceiling, bright, cheerful paint and very clean throughout.
The hotel has various room choices (shared bath) but I believe my room with its own bath is among the largest. It contained everything I could want - a large queen bed, refrigerator, large dresser, flat-screen TV, desk and chair and free WiFi, air-conditioning and TWO windows. There is no closet, but a rack for clothes that was ok. There is also a decent communal kitchen with stove, microwave etc. on each floor.
As a single woman, the presence of a concierge at all times and an elevator was important and best of all, the price was less than half the price of studio sub-lets I was considering.

Room Tip: New York City is noisy, but I was on the top (7th) floor. I preferred my own bath, but the shared...

Nothing major to report. Rooms were small but well equipped. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Location was a little out, but there was a station close by. For the price paid I was happy.

I stayed there for two months and really liked the room I was given. The toilets are clean, though they do not clean your room without you paying a very high cleaning fee so we ended up cleaning our room ourselves. Another thing was that the heater never worked consistently and was often off during the coldest of days. We kept going down to tell them to fix it but nothing much could ever be done about it. That was fine in September, but by November that got pretty miserable.

The room we stayed in had a comfortable, queen size bed, a big TV-screen (not that you need to use it while staying in NYC!) and a good but noisy AC. The towels were changed every day and the bed was made every day aswel. We use the common bathrooms...which were pretty luxurious! The tube is just a short walk for the hotel.
We went to the coffee shop (on broadway) around the corner every day for some bagels and coffee. Nice people, good coffee and tasty bagels!
Don't go to the "All American" diner closeby on Broadway. Awfull food, the service was okay...but they rip you of with hidden service costs. So that you tip them and get the service costs aswel... Not very decent!
