Georges Restaurant, on the corner of Greenwich and Rector Streets was just a short walk from the Marriott Downtown. We ate there two mornings in a row; first we both tried the Eggs Benedict which were delicious, but he "hollandaise" sauce was not your typical pale yellow. There were some extra spices in it that I could not identify, but were very tasty. The next day I tried the Croissant French Toast which was delicious. Served with an abundance of sliced bananas and strawberries and a "chantily cream" which was like a chocolate whipped cream...delicious! One member of our party tried the vegetariam omelette and said it was great. Definitely worth a visit!

We went here a year ago when staying at the marriott nearby and went again on this years Christmas trip when we visited the 911 memorial. Good food at decent prices. Plenty of seating. Courteous staff and clean place. Had seating for five which we've found to be a problem in some NYC places. Will go back again if in lower manhattan.

& people for breakfast. Omelettes, eggs benedict, Belgium waffles with ice cream and whipped cream. Yummy. All good. Service a little tardy but pleasant.

Visited there for lunch after the 9/11 memorial. Hungry for lunch, we ordered from their extensive menu. Well, the milk shake was great. The sandwiches were mediocre at best. Service friendly, but slow. Wish we went somewhere else.

You can tell a lot about a place by the people eating there.

In the case of George's, I figured it was going to be pretty good when we stepped in. The place was packed, with servers squeezing past crowded tables and people ordering without having glanced at the menu. From what I gather this place has been an old-standby in the area for a long time, and deservedly so. The service was fast, and the food was great (sadly I didn't note what we ordered...I know it was a couple soups, an open face sandwich of some kind, and something else). The price was reasonable as well.

My only regret is that we didn't stop in for breakfast after hearing a couple people raving about it. Would definitely eat here again.
