The staff are so welcoming and friendly as soon as you walk through the door. The food is prepared right in the center of the restaurant and the food is served to the customers sitting around the grill or wait staffing taking to food to tables via long paddles. The food is always fresh and cooked to perfection. The golden eye snapper is probably the best thing on the menu, but it's hard to confirm because everything is so good.

I had to ask for a custom roll since what is normally a red dragon roll wasn't there but they did it but charged me $28 for it. Kinda of riduculous but delicious. The constant yelling from the chefs is kinda annoying but overall a nice place to dine by yourself right in midtown. It's right next to ny times building.

Didn't know what to expect, but were pleased with the evening. Inakaya's atmosphere is better than most Japanese restaurants. The menu was quite extensive with a large variety of grilled fish and meats, and lots of sushi and sashimi. The beer and saki list was decent. We'll be back!

Good food with many choices on the menu ranging from sushi to robata grilled vegies and meats. If you like the authentic Japanese food scene this place is a good choice. Fairly priced, but beware of the $3 charge per cup of tea. Great ambiance, and good service. Seems quite popular for lunch as most of the tables were taken when we were there. Will definately try it again next time in town.

Inakaya is a robotayaki, a Japanese restaurant where food is grilled in front of the customers and with a simple dipping sauce.

The cooks pass food to the diners on paddles with long wooden handles.

They shout out greetings as customers come and go. And frequently they pick up a set of large wooden blocks, beat them rhythmically, and lead the entire establishment in Japanese chants.

The food itself is fine, mostly on a par with other robotayakis I have been to.
