This hotel was really nice! I had a wedding to attend this past Friday and simultaneously needed to send an urgent item by e-mail the same evening. The wireless internet in the hotel worked flawlessly and I was able to send my file before going to the wedding, which helped alleviate a lot of the day's stress.
The hotel staff were very knowledgeable, answered questions (like how long it would take me to get from the hotel to the wedding location at rush hour), and were very polite - all the way from confirming and updating my reservation, to check-in, to the bar and restaurant staff to checkout.
The bartender in the evening was helpful in answering questions about tourist sites and the staff for breakfast the next morning were equally accommodating. I was even able to get a hot breakfast for a very reasonable $12 (plus tax and tip)! That's tough to find in a New York City hotel. The menu had hot and cold breakfast choices, along with a buffet, and appeared to be accommodating to both North American and European tastes. The breakfast room / bar had a sleek almost Asian feel. It reminded me a bit of the breakfast room of a Japanese ryokan I stayed in once near Tokyo - only more modern - very nice.
The rooms were very clean and well-designed - kindof Scandinavian / Pottery Barn look. The room itself and the bathroom were very clean - the latter having good water pressure and hot water. The clock, TV, and closet safe all worked well (and I mentioned earlier that the internet access worked well). The TV was nicer than what I have at home - and no annoying hotel marketing channels like you see in some places. I got to the hotel a couple of hours before I had to leave for the wedding, so was able to hang out my clothes beforehand and didn't have to use the iron and ironing board in the room - but they were there if you needed them. I had some work to do while in NYC and so booked on an upper floor that worked out well in terms of not having traffic noise being a distraction.
The weather was good, so I walked from the train station to the hotel and then to the wedding on 52nd St. without any trouble. I think if I had wanted to take a taxi though, I would have walked out to 8th or 9th Ave instead of trying to get one right in front of the hotel as the traffic on 40th St. seemed pretty congested.
The lobby area was nice - coffee there in the morning if you didn't want a full breakfast - along with newspapers and computer workstations for quick internet access, and a small seating area for waiting for friends, or whatever. Security seemed to be appropriate with a discreet security guard in the lobby as well as special key card access for the elevators and rooms. The hotel didn't have a fitness center per se, but offered passes to a nearby club, which unfortunately I didn't have time to check out.
Staying at this hotel really helped make my visit enjoyable and as stress-free as you can get when going to NYC. Thanks for a great stay.
