“Great Choice when looking for quality/value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2010

We chose this hotel based on the reviews, the fact that it's new and the discount from Trip Advisor. We paid approx $240 per night. Which is a great rate for a classy clean and chic hotel like the Distrikt. The hotel is a gem on a kind of depressing street. But look beyond the 24 hour DVD and Pot Holes, and the tower rises next to a Mariott with cool night lighting effects on the facade. The floors only have 4 rooms, one on each coner, so it's really tall and skinny! The front desk staff are very freindly and efficient, check in was a breeze. The room we booked had a double queen, not sure if I sprang for the deluxe view, but don't, it's not worth it IMHO. The rooms are smaller than most hotels, but it's par for new york city. We had four, including 2 teens and we were comfy. The rooms are clean and nice. They sprayed a heavy dose of fragrance, which was strange, unless someone was smoking before us, not sure why.

The only complaint I have is towels. We had two bath towels, and four people. So, on each day I would call down for them to deliver two more, but they would bring the whole package of bath and hand. Then around 8 or 9 they would do the "turn down" and remove any wet towels, so we would once again be left with two towels for the morning. So, the tip is hide your used towels if you have more than two people or they will remove them at turn down! LOL

Also, it was a pain to get ice, a staffer had to go to the bar, fill a bucket and bring it up to you. Nice touch but, not the most effecient way when you're holding a warm drink!

All in all a great find, and while the promotional rates last, a great place. Across from the port authority bus depot so you can go anywhere via Subway or Bus. Also, about 3 blocks from restaurant row and broadway theaters. An easy walk to Times Square. A great place for travellers on leisure.

This is a new non-smoking property opened in February 2010 on W 40th Street between 8th and 9th (Hell's Kitchen). It is 2 blocks from Times square.

We had a king bed and its a really nice (and size) room. The bed is one of the best we have ever slept in a hotel. Bathroom is spotless with a decent sized shower with glass doors. Flat screen LG LCD with all HD stations including HBO and HBO2. Free wireless in the room (slow) and safe in the room that fits a laptop easily. Mini bar with usual 3.25 sodas and 6.50 beers.

31 floors...only 5 rooms per floor. Small bar in the back behind the lobby that we did not go to. Four iMacs in the lobby with large screens free to use. Free iced tea and coffee in the lobby depending on time of day. Staff is friendly.

No pool or fitness center but they give you free passes to a local club (we did not use due to all the walking).

If coming in from the Lincoln Tunnel, hotel is a minute from there. Self parking is only $24 a day next door which a good deal for the area.

Only minor negative is the ugly area...the hotel is in a string of four new hotels in a row that face the side of the Port Authority (bus terminal). Fortunately you don't see the busses go in and out on this side. It's safe to walk around so no worries...and since there are four hotels in a row, you see a lot of tourists (families). The subway is only a block away at port authority. Very short walk to Times Square so the location is not all bad if that's what you want to see.

Overall, a nice new property that provides a very clean room and super comfortable bed.

Other stuff:
Cheap pizza around the corner called 99 cents fresh pizza http://www.yelp.com/biz/99-cents-fresh-pizza-new-york Saw some cops there eating at the counter there, asked them how it was and they recommended it. Not bad for a cheap eat and it was $1 a slice and not $3.

Hotel suggested Westway Diner for breakfast http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60763-d459367-Reviews-Westway_Diner_Restaurant-New_York_City_New_York.html Low prices...decent food.

Ate dinner outside at Dos Caminos in the Meat Packing district (Hotel siggested to go down there). Food was good..great Tequila list. Server was friendly.

Distrikt is a very new hotel, consequently the decor is beautiful, not aged or dated in any way. The chocolates on our pillow are a lovely touch. The staff are super friendly, giving us tips on how to get to places, and where to pick up the airport transporter. The hotel restaurent is also lovely and the pancake brekfast is great!
Location is in the heart of everything, near Times Square.
The only downside was that when we checked out, they seemed to have taxed us on each day we stayed, not something I have experienced in other hotels in NY previously
( unless its a new thing?). Basically this made our trip $150 more per person, so just be aware to budget for this.

Very very nice hotel. Closed to Time square (just a couple of blocks!). We walked around for 3 days and took the subway only twice to go downtown. It's not true the street is not safe...It's also very close to the bus station, therefore very convenient if you have to go to any other city by bus (Grayhound). Room: modern and clean. Service: super! They were very friendly, give nice suggestions for restaurants and diners. I forgot a dress in the hotel and they were very kind and help me to have it back. I appreciate the chocolates, newspaper and weather forecast left every day in the room...Absolutely we will stay there again and suggest to any friend.

Staying at the Distrikt was a pleasant experience from the moment we arrived until we left. The room was a great design, and I'd love to have the bathroom in my own home. The desk and bell staff were so geniune. Best of all the price was reasonable when compared to many others studied before our first stay in NYC. Wonderful towels, bedding, pillows, etc, and rooms were quiet so we slept well in QUEEN beds, also hard to find in NYC.
I would definately recommend and stay here again

This is a smart hotel in the centre of new york. Don't be put off by the unattractive street. Everything in the hotel is of high quality. The rooms are finished to a high standard and comfortable.

Thank you to the hotel for our wonderful stay. Great location 2 blocks from time square and 15 minute walk to central park and empire state building. The hotel is new and very clean with an amazing shower. The staff was very friendly and it really helped that they kept our baggage locked up all day the day we left so we could take in the sights. Thanks again and we qwill be back.
