We chose this hotel based on the reviews, the fact that it's new and the discount from Trip Advisor. We paid approx $240 per night. Which is a great rate for a classy clean and chic hotel like the Distrikt. The hotel is a gem on a kind of depressing street. But look beyond the 24 hour DVD and Pot Holes, and the tower rises next to a Mariott with cool night lighting effects on the facade. The floors only have 4 rooms, one on each coner, so it's really tall and skinny! The front desk staff are very freindly and efficient, check in was a breeze. The room we booked had a double queen, not sure if I sprang for the deluxe view, but don't, it's not worth it IMHO. The rooms are smaller than most hotels, but it's par for new york city. We had four, including 2 teens and we were comfy. The rooms are clean and nice. They sprayed a heavy dose of fragrance, which was strange, unless someone was smoking before us, not sure why.
The only complaint I have is towels. We had two bath towels, and four people. So, on each day I would call down for them to deliver two more, but they would bring the whole package of bath and hand. Then around 8 or 9 they would do the "turn down" and remove any wet towels, so we would once again be left with two towels for the morning. So, the tip is hide your used towels if you have more than two people or they will remove them at turn down! LOL
Also, it was a pain to get ice, a staffer had to go to the bar, fill a bucket and bring it up to you. Nice touch but, not the most effecient way when you're holding a warm drink!
All in all a great find, and while the promotional rates last, a great place. Across from the port authority bus depot so you can go anywhere via Subway or Bus. Also, about 3 blocks from restaurant row and broadway theaters. An easy walk to Times Square. A great place for travellers on leisure.
