“Excellent Hotel in New York”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

To be honest I would have given it a 4.5 stars but considering the option is not available would go for the full 5. The hotel is super clean (compared to New York standards it's outstanding) the bed is comfortable and if you are to book there go for the king room the extra space is suitable. The location is amazing and if you are coming for a city trip everything is a walk away or u can take the subway, the station close to the hotel could get you to all the sites easily. The staff are extremely helpful and professional. The downside is closets are too small so for a couple visiting for a week there isnt enough room to unpack. I strongly recommend this hotel for a 2-3 day city trip around NYC.

My friend and I stayed at The Distrikt for 4 nights in January. We thought the hotel was
really fantastic.Nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful staff. We had a problem with our travel company and they did everything they could to resolve it including phoning them in the UK. Not many hotels (if any?) would
bother to contact you on your return to check if the travel company had reimbursed you!An excellent hotel with outstanding staff - thank you to you all!

. I even had an email on my return to UK asking if we had received a

Spent three nights at the Distrikt in mid February, 2014. There's been so much positive feedback already written, I'll add my two cents worth and maybe some different perspective. I'm 67 and traveled to NY alone to see some Broadway and get a taste of a city I'd never seen before. The entire process, from booking online, to using the senior discount, to getting phone assistance ahead of time, to actual check-in was pleasant. They seem to treat their guests as real humans - rather than just an unwanted "hassle" the way some places do. My needs are few, but I always felt that if anything special came up, they were there to help.

(I hope I spell her name correctly) Sareah was a delight. Went out of her way to get me a room I'd enjoy. Had to wait a while, but ended up on floor #31 close to the top with nice view of the Hudson and a view of the upper floors of the Empire State Building. The Hudson was visible from bed and from most of the room. The Empire was facing in an opposite direction and required standing close to the window to view. It is beautifully lit at night with the colors changing from day to day. I should say that directly across from my side of the hotel was another hotel, perhaps only 50' away. (Not a complaint - but don't want to leave the impression the river and Empire State occuied the full view. They didn't.)

The entire complex and room were well maintained and sparkling clean. The queen bed mattress evidenced some wear in the center but was still very comfortable. The small safe is easy to operate using a number you program in. Was nice to be able to lock up the IPad and other valuables when away. The window is medium sized - perhaps 5-6' wide - and sparkling clear, making the view of the city that much nicer. This room had an obviously brand new walk-in shower, so the tiles were brilliantly bright and the glass door and fixtures spotless. There aren't a lot of table tops or other surfaces to toss one's belongings on - but with a little planning, you'll find ample drawer space to store everything. One complaint is that valuable space is taken up by a self-serve beverage dispenser (charges apply) and that space could be put to better use with a personal-sized refrigerator for guest use. I did request and receive a "mini-refrig" which sat on the desktop and had little more space inside than a good sized lunch bucket. A del-bought chicken salad would not fit. A single 24-oz can of beer and a small mug I like to keep chilled did fit - occupying most of the compartment. There is no self-serve ice dispenser on premises. But they were exceptionally good at bringing ice to the room anytime I called (no charge). Than again, they were exceptionally good about just about everything.

I had no car nor used any taxis. It was cheap and easy getting to and from LGA via the public transportation system. This won't appeal to everyone, as the bus drop off and pickup is on 8th Avenue, the equivalent if a 2-3 block walk. (It's not uncommon to see people carting suitcases through this area.) One day I walked to the Empire State Building, about 30-45 minutes away. (Walking in NY requires a lot of time waiting at the busy intersections.) I walked to the Majestic Theater in about 10 minutes. It was just a few more minutes to the Booth Theater. Time square is perhaps a 15-20 minute walk. The gym for which you receive a free pass is two blocks away, "as the crow flies" but requires walking 3 or 4 blocks. It took about 5 minutes to reach. It's in the basement of a building and has dozens of cardio machines including treadmills. Also - an excellent assortment of weights and muscle building equipment. The gym was not very busy on the two days I visited. FYI: There's no spa or pool.

I felt safe walking about day and night. What sets this particular block apart is that the entire length on the opposite side is occupied by a large brick & concrete parking structure (related to the NY Port Authority). Other than busses arriving, there's nothing else to attract people, giving the area a bit of a "deserted" feel. The side on which the hotel is situated has an assortment of small business ranging from the oft-mentioned "adult" DVD store, to restaurants, a pizza place, a Chinese restaurant, and two or three other hotels. It's not a bad area - but you are in the middle of a major city! While walking on 8TH Avenue (crosses at the end of the block) I endured huge crowds of people night and day going about their business and having a good time, along with an occasional "panhandler" who might come up and ask if I needed "assistance." I just said "good day" and kept walking. One, however, a youth inside the Port Authority Building did become somewhat aggressive in pestering me for money and so I walked outside to wait for the bus back to the airport. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

For location, price and friendly staff, The Distrikt Hotel can't be beat. On the upper floors, nice views of the Empire State Bldg and the Hudson River. Our room on the 23rd floor was clean & cozy with a super comfortable bed. Best hotel shower I've ever had--water pressure was awesome! Can't beat the location--close to everything by foot, but easy to grab a cab & close to the subway. Hugo & his staff are on point for making your stay pleasureable--like staying with friends. Enjoy your stay, we did.

We had a great stay here in Feb of 2014. We were in town for the Super Bowl and had a great time. The location of this hotel is very nice - you can walk to most all the attractions in Manhatten and lots of great places to eat. The best part of this hotel was by far the staff. Very friendly and went out of their way. I would stay here again.
