Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue

What can i say about this hotel except that we were really impressed. We stayed from the 22nd to the 29th August.

We arrived in New York following a day of delayed flights due to fog which resulted in missed connecting flights and only to find out that when we finally arrived, 9 hours after we should have, that my luggage was still in Amsterdam! So you can imagine that after the day we had we were expecting something else to go wrong!

We arrived at approx 10.30pm to be greeted by Erin. Check in was effortless and we were even provided with two little welcome bags. Erin confirmed that as per our request when we booked, through Expedia, that we had a room with a view. The room being on the 15th floor and facing the Empire State Building!!!! A happy end to a rubbish day!

The room was very clean and quite spacious with an American king size bed (three pillows wide). There were two bed side cabinets, a wardrobe and a desk which was in front of the window and it covered the air conditioning unit. The TV was mounted on the wall facing the bed. You could easily walk around the bed and we managed to store our luggage leaving adequate floor space. The radio alarm clock had an iPod dock and there was also a coffee machine, iron and ironing board. The room also has wired internet access.

The bathroom was clean and was stocked up with plenty of towels and mini shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser and soap! here was even a fairly decent travel hairdryer. All things i was very grateful for considering i had no luggage!

We received fresh towels every day even when we tried reuse some and the coffee and minis were restocked as required. We could not fault the housekeeping service.

Breakfast was busy, however, you do not have to eat in the breakfast area. It does depend on when you go. We took our breakfast up to our room on a couple of occasions. Breakfast consists of cereal, bread, bagels, fresh fruit, microwavable sausage and egg muffins (Yum), yoghurt, a waffle iron, pastries, fruit juices and more. Items were restocked regularly and everything was fresh. There was a conveyor type toaster to make toast and heat up bagels etc. Tea and Coffee was available all day next to the free to use internet enabled computers. Water, usually flavoured with oranges, was available at the main reception and was very welcomed after having walked lots during the day. Occasionally there were also cookies or muffins!

The location of the hotel is very good and the street was fairly quiet. Yes there was construction going on next door, however, we were informed of this when we checked in and this didn't particularly bother us as we weren't there to have lie ins and stay indoors!!! The nearest subway is 5-10 minutes walk and the Empire State Building, Times Square, Grand Central Station, New York Public Library were all within short walking distances. Oh and of course the shops on 5th Avenue! Walking down 5th avenue also takes you straight to Central Park.

The staff were always friendly and happy to help, in particular, Erin, Daniel and Joseph who all went out their way to try and make our stay as pleasant as possible. We stayed during the hurricane and the staff kept us well informed of the hotels plans.

On a previous trip we stayed in the New Yorker Hotel, which set high standards but this hotel easily outshone it on all levels.

Next time we visit New York we will definitely be checking in to the Fairfield Manhattan/5th Avenue! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We booked our hotel choices for our vacation late this year, and had to change hotels 3 times. The Fairfield Inn / Fifth Ave was by far the cleanest, and most efficiently ran hotel on our trip. The front desk / bell staff were extremely friendly and helpful... the hotel was in a great central location. The rooms were a bit small (we were expecting that), but very clean and modern. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the NYC area.

Our hotel was very centrally located and our service was great! The breakfast was plentiful and tasty and the afternoon orange water and cookies were wonderful. The room was extremely small and there was no place to actually set our suitcases. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The elevator was very quick and responsive. Never had to wait more than a few seconds for it. 3 good things......Location, the Service and the cookies!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay. I am glad you enjoyed our hotel with our staff and midtown location. I hope next time you will try our breakfast. We get fresh New York style bagels delivered fresh from a local bakery.

The only negative experience at this hotel was the size of the room- which is to be expected as this is NYC.

Check-in was a breeze, the lobby is nice and the location is great (a 6-minute walk to Penn Station, Grand Central Station and Port Authority). Subway line was even closer.

The surrounding area is a bit grungy, but overall clean (a few "adult" stores on the same street, but nothing too risque).

We didn't eat the breakfast provided as we were either asleep or wanted to try some authentic NYC bagels.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for single travelers or couples... double-double rooms are more expensive and you could probably find another hotel that offers a bit more space for around the same price.

The staff at Fairfield Inn could not have been nicer. We were able to check in early instead of storing our bags. The breakfast area was clean and restocked with food items in a timely manner. Whenever we had questions about directions the staff were very helpful. We were affected by hurricane Irene and the staff did everything possible to help us. The rooms were clean and daily maid service was excellent. The only minus I would give this hotel is for small rooms, but what do you expect in NYC? This is not a luxury hotel, but a great hotel for a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Book with a package deal. We used Expedia.

We really enjoyed our stay here, the rooms are a reasonable size for new york with comfy bed and a very good shower. The staff were always friendly and very helpful - especially as we were there during a difficult time in hurricane Irene.

Breakfast was good with a variety of options but the aircon was a bit low in the breakfast area and we didn't have any winter gear! Don't put whole bagels in the toaster to cause a fire, even if you are cold (wife did this) The ice water and cookies in reception were a nice touch.

Location is great within walking distance to most sights and restaurants.

Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Higher is better whilst construction is ongoing.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. We have stayed at the Marriott Marquis and the Grand Hyatt on previous occasions. I read tons of reviews on Trip Advisor prior to booking this hotel, and did it in large part due to the very good rates I got on the Marriott website. The room (king size bed) was tiny. There was no place to even put suitcases. It was clean. Everyone at the hotel was friendly. We had problems with the A/C the entire time. We notified the front desk at around 5 p.m. the day we checked in and they said they'd send someone up. We came back at 10ish to find out that hadn't happened. We asked again. We left and came back an hour or so later and someone had been in there, and the room temp had been turned up to 80. Turns out that's how you "un-freeze" the condenser on the a/c. So my husband looked at what they did and adjusted the temp down. It eventually started cooling the air, and did so for about 4 hours. Then started blowing hot air again. The next morning we notified a different person at the desk about it, and she put our name down on a list of at least six rooms all having "HVAC" problems. So it didn't seem to make sense to move rooms when other rooms were experiencing similar problems. Basically we had to go back to the room periodically to adjust the temp so it wouldn't freeze up again. Aside from these issues, the fact that the room was too small, and the elevators were very slow (and half the time only one was in service), we didn't let it ruin our stay. We only slept and showered there. The complimentary water in the lobby was nice. The location was within walking distance to Penn Station, Times, Square, etc. The hotel next door, the Strand, had a very nice rooftop bar with an excellent view of the Empire State building. I'd have to say the overall experience was just average, mostly because of the continuous A/C problems.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the construction

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay. I am happy to hear that our staff was friendly and accomodating. However, I regret the inconveniences you experienced with our HVAC units. I apologize that this negatively impacted your stay. Yes, we are in the process of addressing our HVAC units to better serve our guests. I hope you will give us another opportunity on your next visit.
