Stayed here on a Saturday night, 2 Dbl rooms with 8 girls. The rooms were a bit on the small side, but the beds were very comfortable and we loved the Bliss Spa products in the bathroom. We were celebrating a friends 40th and the front desk sent up a slice of cake with a candle and a few wine spritzers which was a nice touch. We had apps and drinks at the bar on the 5th floor adjacent to check in which was nice start to our eventful evening out. In the early morning there is complimentary coffee here, no coffee makers in the room. Valet parking is $55 but $65 if you have an SUV. Our rooms overlooked WTC construction but there was no noise Sunday morning. Due to the large glass window/wall separating the shower and sleeping area, I had to wash up and use the facilities in the dark so I wouldn't disturb my friends while they slept. Once you turn on the lights inside the bathroom, the entire bedroom lights up as well due to this glass window.(design flaw) Overall, nice hotel and I would return when visiting the area.

We booked this hotel through Hotwire for about $120 on a Saturday night - it would have been an amazing value at twice that price as the hotel is brand new, very well managed and located in the heart of downtown NYC. Some reviews decribe the rooms as small but we found them very reasonable for downtown New York.

My wife and I were staying overnight at the W Downtown for a private party at the hotel organized by a local trade organization. The first impression of the W is a combination of amazement and confusion. Amazing because everything is so wonderfully trendy and clean. Nice details are the floor mat in the elevator ("Good morning" "Good afternoon" "Good night" depending on the part of the day) and a welcome note in the room. Confusing because, yes, I'll have to check in on the 5th floor and also have to figure out how to get lighting working in the room (use room key and look for a tiny switch on the bedside lamp).

The view from the room on the north side is spectacular: the Ground Zero construction site. Indeed, since construction in going on from early morning till late at night, you may want to ask for a room on the south side if you want to sleep in. Although not the biggest room size I've experience in the city, definitely sufficient, comfortable and very clean.

The staff was very friendly, without an exception. Also the restaurant (BLT Bar & Grill) was above my expectations: food was very good and although filled to capacity, we didn't feel rushed out. The W did also everything right to make the private event at night a wonderful experience.

The only suggestion to the W would be to include free Wifi. The target customer profile for this hotel are those that want to be connected, all the time.

Overall, if you like a trendy Euro style hotel with a lot of attention to customers and details, you'd like this hotel A LOT! Stay away if you're looking for stuffy country style rooms with flower motifs :-)

I stayed here for the weekend with a friend. When we first walked in the building we were in awe of the modern and trendy the design of the inside of the hotel. Second reaction- THE STAFF WERE ALL SO FRIENDLY!!!!! We arrived in the morning expecting to store our bags in a room, however, even though check-in is not until 3PM, we were in our room by 10AM - this was a nice surprise. The rooms were great, comfortable bed, and the Ipod docking station is a definite bonus. Had cocktails on the bar patio and the atmosphere was great, bartender so friendly, he even recommended night life that he felt would suit our style and needs. The concierge was great with directions around the city and extremely friendly- you could sense she wanted to help. Finally, the BLT restaurant on the 2nd floor offered a delicious menu, not too expensive with a tasty breakfast. We will be staying here next visit, no question.

I've stayed at quite a number of different W Hotels around the world and this W really makes the experience - WOW.

We checked in on a Saturday (over the memorial weekend) at about 7pm. The bellman, Jimmy, was very pleasant and greeted us when we arrived. He was quick to assist us with our luggages and shopping bags (all these filled the trolley all the way to the top). While we were on our way to the 5th level for the check in, he was informing us about the different facilities in the hotel.

The front desk staff was helpful and the check in was a swift. Jimmy, the bellman, showed us to the room. He told us that complimentary coffee and tea are available everyday from 630am to 10am. WIFI is free on the 5th level. It's free in the room for the privileged SPG members (if I remember correctly). The gym is on level 3. He continued to tell us more about the restaurant and bars in the hotel. He really impressed me because none of the bellmen that I've come across in any of the W Hotels is as detailed as him. Well done Jimmy!

We had the corner room so it's rather quiet (partly because we stayed over the Memorial long weekend). The room is very nice (avoid W at Lexington, it's really not worth the money). And my bathroom does not come with the frosted glass door feature.

The gym is consider big when compared to most hotels. And it's well equiped with weights and treadmills.

Our package came with compimentary drinks and nibbles at the bar. Even though it's nibbles, some of them can be considered as main courses if you are not a big eater. The nibbles are really good. My favourites are the grilled octopus, shrimp cocktail, crab dip and pappardelle ragu. We were there for three consecutive nights and Cassandra, the hostess, was always very helpful and friendly. She's partly the reason why we decided to host some of our friends at the bar during our stay there.

Nicole at the concierge desk was equally helpful. She helped us to book the complimentary ride (advice is to book at least 24 hours in advance).

The only thing that I don't like about the hotel is its location. We tried taking the subway but due to the long weekend, the train service was infrequent and irregular. So be prepared for it if you are staying there during the weekend or public holidays.

On the whole, the staff at this W does not behave as if they are club bouncers. they really make the efforts to ensure your stay is pleasant and enjoyable. Well done.

This is a very nice hotel. Very clean and hip looking. However, there is one design flaw that I did not like-- the shared wall between the bathroom and sleeping area is frosted glass. Although this can be very sexy if you are traveling with your spouse, it is not if you are traveling with a parent or a friend. You can see the outline of whoever is taking a shower! This really didn't bother me. It was the fact that the light, when turned on in the bathroom, shines into the sleeping area-not good at nighttime when you are trying to sleep! If you are traveling with someone who gets up at night to use the bathroom, this can be irritating. There was some noise from the construction until 9:30 at night, but after that did not hear anymore. If you want to take a nap during the day, the noise could be irritating, but at night it is quiet. In fact, I like how quiet it is here compared to midtown. Midtown is much, much more noisy, especially at night!

Overall, I enjoyed my stay and thought the hotel was very nice. Food was very good and the bar area in the lobby was hip and comfortable too. Liked the complimentary coffee/tea in the morning and juice/water in the afternoon.
