Owner description: Trendy New York City neighborhood, especially popular with the gay community.

Even though the Chelsea Hotel is no longer in operation, no visit to NYC is incomplete without spending time in Chelsea. I've stayed at the Chelsea numerous times...what a place it was...associated with Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, Bob Dylan, Sid and Nancy, etc. There are so many fine restaurants, clubs and art galleries.

Chelsea is the section of Manhattan that is above 14th Street, below about 28th Street, & west of 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) - New York's neighborhoods are not official, so the boundaries are not precise. This is considered the lowest part of western Midtown, but here are no real skyscrapers. It is well worth strolling here; & as in any Manhattan neighborhood, it's worth bringing a copy of the architectural guidebook AIA GUIDE TO NEW YORK CITY. The neighborhood's most interesting feature is the High Line (see that review). Another cool place is the Chelsea Market, formerly a Nabisco cookie factory (of Oreo fame), today an upscale mall featuring excellent food.

Where else in New York can you find amazing baked goods (and I mean truly worth the calories), Bahn Mi sandwiches, fresh cooked lobster, Thai food, crepes, Asian fusion (Buddakan), an oyster bar, book store, clothing shops, high quality local meats, a vegetable/fruit market, an herb/spice seller that reminds me of a stall in a turkish souk, Gelato, fantastic soups (Senegalese chicken with peanuts -yum), cheeses, wine and more under one roof ? The only challenge is that, especially on weekends it is very crowded and finding a open table or getting in the bathroom without a long line is near impossible

it is like being transported to another world: delight to the senses - beautiful attractions, wafting smell of herbs, teas, healthy sandwiches..many more!

The ONLY reason to visit this section of town is because Donut Planet. Deliciousness that is unparallel. The Market is fine but over priced.
