Owner description: Trendy New York City neighborhood, especially popular with the gay community.

This is still another area of city that has undergone transformation. Restaurants are plentiful, great access to the High Line, love the galleries, great place to just wander around (especially close to the river)

Like so much of NYC, Chelsea is old; it is lined by projects along 9th avenue, mom and pop stores along 8th, lots of foreign wholesalers in the intersecting side streets; yoga and dance studios on the upper floors of the wholesalers, a thousand small eateries, trendy but not top notch, and saturated with gay visitors and residents alike . The area offers superb shopping on 23rd Street, and bargains on 14th St. 6th Avenue is a well stocked shopping corridor from 14th Street to Herald Square, passing through the flower district, and leading right to the shopping Mecca at Macy's . On 7th Avenue, Madison Square Garden is the pre-eminent destination on 32nd St. Shopping, sports, eating, you can do it all somewhere in Chelsea.

Great architecture. Walk through the side streets and enjoy seeing the great architecture, so particular of this neighbourhood. Great restaurants and bars as well. A lively place.

It is somewhat run down in spots but it was home at once to the Hell's Kitchen Boys (Irish Mafia) if you are interested in that sort of thing.

Chelsea feels new, and fresh, and hip and young, and cool and open, and is a great little neighborhood. I love visiting the area for brunch, lunch, dinner or flea market shopping!
