I loved this hotel and the staff was stellar. All of the staff from the bellman to the front desk agents were very professional and accommodating. This was a quick business trip so to have a hotel be the easy part makes my life so much better. The bathrooms were stunning and offer a great over sized tub. For a NYC hotel the rooms were very spacious and offered great features! Love this hotel and absolutely plan to stay again.

Dear Megan M,

Thank you for the great review. We’re delighted you were able to find pleasure during your business trip, especially since it was a quick visit! During your next stay, check out Asellina, for a convenient, modern take on authentic Italian cuisine. Indulge in a classic Margherita flatbread or try the spicy tagliatelle with Manila clams. We look forward to seeing you again!

Best,

Gansevoort Park

We stayed here for a week with our two teenage sons. We booked two rooms - one Grand Deluxe (for us) and a Double Deluxe (for the boys). Both were very decent sizes, especially for New York.

We arrived at the hotel pretty late (nearly midnight) and the place was hopping as there's a popular bar on the top floor. It was a fun introduction to the hotel! Check-in was thankfully quick as we were tired after the journey.

Both rooms were pretty newly furnished with plenty of wardrobe space, decent-sized bathrooms, comfortable beds plus desk & TV etc. The Grand Deluxe was meaningfully larger than the twin room - with a sofa and a table. Rooms on the upper floors facing the right direction probably have views of the Empire State (which can be seen in all its splendour from the roof-top pool terrace) but we didn't have much in the way of a view.

The location is good - 29th Street & Park Avenue, with quite a few reasonable restaurants, breakfast places & bars within walking distance plus subway a block away. It was rarely difficult to get a cab.

The hotel's restaurant, Aselina, we only used for breakfast (reviewed separately) and it was nice, but expensive. The top-floor bar was very cool, although some of the guests were a bit obnoxious we found (e.g. models that were so full of themselves they didn't seem to think that manners were important).

The 'business centre' was a bit pathetic - three PCs languishing on the balcony above the reception area, along with an out-of-order printer, but reception were happy enough to print anything we needed so it didn't matter. WiFi was free throughout the hotel and was reasonable quality on the whole.

We only had one glitch: the roof-top pool was supposed to be open until about 6pm each evening, and for us this was important as one of the reasons we chose this hotel was for the pool. It's nice to come back after a day's sight-seeing and be able to swim. So my sons & I were disappointed one evening to go up there all ready for our dip and be refused access because there was a photo shoot. I argued with the manager, which embarrassed my teenage sons of course, and the photographer conceded but by then the damage was done - I made the point that we had emailed about the pool asking for opening times, and a simple notification to guests that the pool wasn't going to be available would have dealt with the problem. Instead, I was annoyed. The hotel tried to make amends by sending us a bowl of fruit, which didn't really do it for me.

The gym was pretty good in terms of available facilities and open 24 hours, I think.

We didn't use the spa, but it looked nice.

Overall, a good choice for travellers on business or vacation looking for something hip and comfortable but not stupidly expensive or bizarre.

Dear RusNewton,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad your overall time here was one to remember. If you stay with us again, our reservations team will be more than happy to place you in a room with expansive views of the Empire State Building for your pleasure. We sincerely apologize for the issue you ran into when trying to access our pool. Our rooftop is a popular spot and is often used for special events and photo shoots. However, you should have been informed about the available times to prevent any problems. We want our guests to have the best-of-the-best and this includes our heated pool with unbeatable city views. If you stay with us again, try Asellina's prix fixe, two-course lunch for just $18. In addition, check out our other hotel restaurant, The Windsor, for upscale classic American cuisine. Please contact digital@theghg.com with any questions or concerns. We hope to see you all again.

Sincerely,

Gansevoort Park

Courteous staff, great location, nice rooms. The location is perfect for quick subway travel uptown or downtown. Nice restaurant off lobby. Fairly quiet lobby. Good-sized rooms, very attractive and comfortable with great bathrooms. I recommend for any type of traveler. High-end artistic types (musicians, models, chefs) seem to flock there.

Room tip: If you have AT&T, stay on the Park Ave. side; but it's quieter on the other side.

I stayed here with two friends for a long weekend. The lobby has beautiful modern furniture with a lovely fireplace. Just around the corner from the lobby (connected) is a full service restaurant (very nice and hip) and around the other side, connected, is a full service bar and lounge. On the two top floors are bars (3 or 4 in all). The outdoor pool and lounge is very nice. You don't find too many of those in NY! Our room had two double beds and was plenty spacious. The bathroom was great!! Tons of storage shelves and cabinets and the shower was so nice that none of us wanted to end our shower. The water pressure was great. The room had a fully stocked bar and then some! The staff came by to ask if we needed ice early in the evening. I suppose lots of people enjoy cocktails before they go out. Nice touch. Late evening the bars on the top levels really get rocking. They have bouncers and elevator operators to keep the crowds in check. There is a special elevator used late night for that crowd. Rest assured, if that is not your scene you will not even know it is going on, as it is separate from the main lobby. Now, one thing you must do is get a massage at the Exhale Spa (located on the 3rd floor). It was, by far, the BEST massage my friends and I have ever had. That's saying a lot, because we've traveled to many places to have massages and we were all blown away. I will definitely return!

Room tip: We had room that was on the 5th floor and sort of close to the corner of the street and it was noisy. But, there are sound machines in the alarm clocks. A higher floor may be quieter.
