“Amazing dining experience”
Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

Thank goodness for a blizzard in NYC as it is usually impossible to get a reservation at Marea at a reasonable hour. The night didn't start off great. The bartender had one of the cockiest attitudes I have seen at a high end restaurant. After barely paying attention to our drink order that he messed up, he tried to blame us. Luckily the couple next to us called him out for being wrong. After that the night was flawless. We ordered the four courses and a great bottle of Pinot Noir. The pasta was like nothing I have ever tasted. Highly suggest the pasta with bone marrow or the one served with clams. The raw fish was a great starter because it was flavorful but not filling. I had the scallops as an entree...amazing. We finished the meal with ice cream. Expect to pay around $400 to $500 for this exceptional dining experience, but well worth it. If you go to the bar don't order from the gentleman. He was even cocky to another couple. Great way to welcome people to the restaurant.

“Simply Delicious”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

I had a lunch menu at the restaurant and the food was excellent.
I was mostly amazed by the dessert which was an art work, and a tasty one!

“Lucked into a seat at the bar and experienced the 5 course dinner.”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

If you don't have reservations and want to try this legendary seafood restaurant in the city try going late and be willing to eat at the bar. The service may be a little less formal but it is extremely informative and knowledgeable. Our server was friendly and helpful helping make our interesting wine pairings with each dish. The fish was all excellent, timing and serving sizes were satisfying and not overdone like some high end restaurants. We didn't leave feeling sick like I have from many set menus.

The sashimi plate costs extra and though delicious is very tiny, the splurge might not be worth the value. Your choice. It was fresh and delicious.

this was one fo the best lunches I have ever had. It was the set businessman's lunch at $45 and an unusual wine from Tuscany which was fantastic at $40. The menu is exciting with a signature Octopus and a pasta with bone marrow! the atmosphere is great and the service exceptional.
i look forward to a further visit when next in NYC.

“good dinner”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

The waiter was knowledgable and served us in a timely manor, we were constrained by time because of our flight home (had to be at LaGuardia @ 7:00). The chef did a great job on my seafood risotto. The wine list has a lot of selections but not many verticals in reference to vintages, but still worth spending some time to pick an enjoyable wine with dinner. The only negative is that we arrived at 5:15 and were told that we could eat at the bar, the dining room will not be seated till 5:30. This is understandable to us, so that staff can get ready for the evening, so we figured we would wait 15 minutes. That was not the problem, the problem was when it hit 5:30 the maitred said he could not us seat us because all the tables were booked with reservations....till my friend talk to him, with a $10 bill, and we got a table. This did not spoil our night and we would return, just make sure to make a reservation so you know you have a table.
