“wow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

this was one fo the best lunches I have ever had. It was the set businessman's lunch at $45 and an unusual wine from Tuscany which was fantastic at $40. The menu is exciting with a signature Octopus and a pasta with bone marrow! the atmosphere is great and the service exceptional.
i look forward to a further visit when next in NYC.

“good dinner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

The waiter was knowledgable and served us in a timely manor, we were constrained by time because of our flight home (had to be at LaGuardia @ 7:00). The chef did a great job on my seafood risotto. The wine list has a lot of selections but not many verticals in reference to vintages, but still worth spending some time to pick an enjoyable wine with dinner. The only negative is that we arrived at 5:15 and were told that we could eat at the bar, the dining room will not be seated till 5:30. This is understandable to us, so that staff can get ready for the evening, so we figured we would wait 15 minutes. That was not the problem, the problem was when it hit 5:30 the maitred said he could not us seat us because all the tables were booked with reservations....till my friend talk to him, with a $10 bill, and we got a table. This did not spoil our night and we would return, just make sure to make a reservation so you know you have a table.

“High Style, High Price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

Beautiful restaurant facing Central Park. Walked there from the Hilton on a cold, windy night and the elegance and warmth wrapped around us as soon as we entered.
On one side is a large, marble topped bar, very comfortable and pleasant place to wait while your table is prepared. Perfect service at the bar, and within minutes the host lead us to an excellent corner banquette style table. Great spacing between diners and a nice view of the room.

The decor is typical upscale New York. Crisp white table cloth, heavy silverware and elegant chinaware. This is not the place for children under twelve, I would say.

My dinner consisted of a rolled crabmeat appetizer that was incredible. Tiny vegetables on the plate were each prepared perfectly. The main course of sea bass was also prepared and presented beautifully. The fish had a grilled pattern on it like fine netting and at first I was unsure if it was to be removed, but it is just like a fine mesh that adds a bit of texture to the fish. Delicious!!

Good wine list, wide variety of wines by the glass, and fairly priced.

I would call this a "special occasion" restaurant. Service is impeccable (almost too quick), and it is pricey. About $160.00 per person including gratuity, but for a treat, it is worth it.

“Out of this world!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013 via mobile

From the moment we walked in, this place was amazing and definitely impressive. From the food to the service to the ambiance, Marea was the best restaurant both my mom and I have ever been to. A couple of must haves off the menu: Uovo fusilli with red wine braised octopus, ainame (Japanese greenling, white bean puree, beet, radish, orange zest). We were just head over heels with everything we had to eat and I would highly recommend this place to anyone! Yes, pricey but worth every penny.

“Pleasant experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

We were in the city for some theater and thought Marea would be a nice place to end our evening. It was busy at 10pm when we arrived and was clearly being enjoyed by other New Yorkers. We were surprised to see a young family with a 5 year old having dinner when we walked in.
The service could not have been nicer - very attentive and personal. We ordered oysters and the chef who opened them came to the table to explain them to us. The entrees were outstanding and the desserts wonderful. Although this is definitely a splurge destination, we would go again.
