“Worth visiting New York just to go here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

The biggest disappointment of our visit to New York was that we only got to go to this bar once, for an hour.

It's one of those places that you wouldn't know was there from the street; you knock on the door and get buzzed in. We were early so there was no problem getting in but I imagine that later in the evening it gets very busy. You then go behind the curtain and voila! It's like stepping back into 1920s New York. The atmosphere is just magic and the cocktails were divine. I'd go back in a shot.

“Stunningly Fun, Cloak and Dagger Not So Much Fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

This bar is exceptional in it's ambiance, service and drink creativity. The drinks are original, interesting and taste very good. Once in, there are booths which are black couches surrounded by sheer black curtains which create an intimate and semi-private feeling. There are two couches to each booth and we shared our booth with a couple we did not know. It was fun and friendly. The music was loud enough to make our conversations private but not so loud as to be intrusive. To call for service, you push a button in your booth and the waitress comes by; very cool system. The bar at the back is amazing in it's simplicity and space for creative drink-making genius. The bathrooms were well stocked, clean and big. My husband and I went for the end of a romantic evening and it was the best part. When we first arrived, we did not know we'd have to wait an hour before they'd call us to come in. It was a cold rainy night and we didn't have anywhere else to go. It was rather annoying so just make plans around that. The door-keeper was a nice guy and let us in a bit under an hour because we couldn't stand the college bar down the street any longer.

“A must visit place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012

I found this unique place thanks to Tripadvisor and i must say i'm pleased i went there and sampled it.
It's not the easiest place to find but that's not such a bad thing and it all adds to the character of this bar. We got there and was told that the place was busy and there was no room but was told to drop by again in about 2 hours, they said they'd ring but we didn't have our phones on us. Anyway, we came back about 11pm and managed to get in and we went to the bar area which was abit of an education watching them concoct all these different cocktails. after a short while we got to sit down and relax on a nice sofa and take in the ambiance and atmosphere of the Raines law room.
I would absolutely recommend this bar, it really is a lovely place to relax and enjoy a drink or two....maybe even three ! If/when i'm in NYC again, i will definitely head for this place, no question.
p.s. Thanks to all the staff at the Raines law room.

“A great experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

Just watching the talented bartenders craft your drink in the "kitchen" area of the bar is an experience! The whole place smells like fresh citrus fruits (which, surprise surprise, are used as artful garnishes in the drinks), and the swanky jazz music adds an atmospheric touch. I imagine this is as close as you'll get to an "authentic" speakeasy. The surroundings were intimate, and the drinks were unique and delicious! The only complaint I had was the place was crowded the night I visited, so I had to do a lot of standing since there were no seats. But being able to watch the bartenders mix up the drinks made up for it because it was like watching mad scientists or master chefs whip up a creative and inspiriting concoction. Check out the wallpaper in the bathroom!

“A good change of pace from NYC nightlife!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

You wouldn't know it is there unless you knew it was there! Very neat, small 'underground' speak easy. Very unique drinks to choose from and the staff is pleasant and more than willing to recommend drinks. I enjoy the fact that it is small and they limit the number of guests allowed inside so you are not rubbing against sweaty, obnoxious bar patrons. A very cool place to go with a few friends to have drinks and chat!
