“It is a ferry, it is clean and it is free”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

This is a great thing to do with kids - take the free (which is free) across the hudson. On the way, you get a nice view of the Statue of Liberty and also get a great view of the Manhattan skyline. Then you can stay on the ferry when it reaches the other side(which we did) and you can ride it back. I think each leg is around 15 mins or so. The kids had a blast and we had a nice time enjoying the view. Absolutely worth it.

“A free view of the State of Liberty!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

Here is one of the great things you can do in New York without having to put your hand in your pocket! We took the Staten Island ferry across and had great views of the Statue of Liberty.
Staten Island itself is very poor and rundown in some areas, but it was nice to browse the island and we even found an interesting little thrift shop.

“The best free thing we did in NYC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

NYC can be pricey, so being able to see the Statue of Liberty, as well as get an amazing view and of lower Manhattan across the water, for free, is the best deal in town. Be sure to take advantage of the photo ops off the back of the ferry once under way. Loading and unloading is a breeze, the ferry was clean (except for some of the windows), warm and punctual. There is a subway stop right outside the ferry terminal.

“Great way to relax and sightsee from free”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

Plenty of room and a place to relax for an hour or so. Ferry has lots of space. On the way towards Staten Island, stay on the "right" or starboard (i.e. face the ship's direction and head towards your right) to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. You can also hang out in the rear and watch Manhattan. Towards the left is Governor's Island. To do the round trip, you exit out and head back in. There should be another ferry ready to go back. Places to eat in both terminals and restrooms.
