There aren't a lot of things to do in most major cities that are still free. This is transportation from Manhattan to Staten Island although many of us (myself included) will go on the State Island Ferry with friends when showing someone the city the budget way. This takes you right past the Statue of Liberty so it's a good photo taking op. When you get to the end, you get out and go back around in line to get your round trip in.

Its free!!! Need I say more. Probably not but I will anyway. When you are on it, the scenery is so beautiful. Looking at Ny and I'm sure NJ. Its calming and even more beautiful at night!

Very well organised and FREE, stunning views of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty, don't bother with a cruise, just go down to South Ferry and cross there and back for nothing

Firstly, this is perhaps NYC's worst kept secret, but the Staten Island Ferry is free and offers amazing views of the Statue of Liberty and also of the Brooklyn Bridge. Secondly, this will be packed full of tourists, so get onto the right hand side of the ferry if you can, then you will get the best views of Liberty Island. Then coming back, get on the left side for views up the East River. Do it!

The ferry runs all day and is a great way to view The Statue of Liberty and you get a fabulous view of Manhatten island.
