Ok, uptown broadway and Lincoln centre not bad for the evenings and restaurants by the Lincoln centre, as well as the cinema and Beacon theatre events.
Midtown obviously has the theatres and times square....a bit too intense and tacky and with the closure of some of the cinemas and music stores, it's not as interesting as days gone by.
Lower broadway is still the best area to spend quality time in, for shopping and just plane wandering around into Soho , china town and little Italy.
A good plan is to head over the Brooklyn bridge, walk past city hall and start on broadway at the southern tip of Manhatten, and take a few hours walking up past midtown to the upper west side..you get to see a lot of sights and it's great for getting your bearings of the city
