Enjoyed a great early show with Dan Bern and then out for drinks later on. A little short, but we knew it was the first of two shows...good wine and good food!

We stumbled uopn this place by accident after noticing lines of people in the late evening that wrapped around the block. It turns out there are sections to the place -- a working winery, a quiet little bar with a store selling their own product, and a large performace venue that serves as a restaurant earlier in the evening. The housemade wines were superb and we took a couple home to California!

Dropped in to The Barrel Room (never been to the restaurant part) on multiple occasions to relax over a wine taster session with cheese. Perfect ambience to unwind on high stools and watch the world go by. Cool atmosphere.....very NYC. Loved it and will return!

PS. The list of wines on the little bar menu is just the wine by glass. If you want the proper menu with huge selection then just ask your waiter!

The food is good, not great. The personal space is small and cramped. Despite that, City Winery is one of the best places to attend a music show in NYC.

Given its name, you'd expect a good, interestingi wine list and they don't disappoint. Wines from the box, wine by the glass, wine by the bottle or wine by the barrel, they have it all. You can even make with there, they'll teach you how and provide the facilities and grapes (for a fee, of course). There is a small but nice beer list and a full bar as well.

The food is not the major player here, but it is well-thought-out and tasty. I'm a huge fan of their wild mushroom flatbread pizza and the harissa-brushed leg-of-lamb. The menu is small, yet has options from small bites to full entrees.

The room is Goldilocks-sized; not too big, not too small. It is big enough to fit a couple of hundred tightly packed music fans yet still small enough to feel intimate and give everyone a decent view of the smallish stage. Acts tend to be up and coming singer songwriters, but bigger names and other types of music also appear. You can check their schedule http://www.citywinery.com/newyork/tickets.html

On Sundays, the City Winery hosts a klezmer brunch, the eastern-European Jewish music style interpreted by modern performers, and a menu featuring common brunch foods, but also a flight of local cheeses and a Moroccan turkey burger.

One of the absolute best things about City Winery evening shows is one attraction that is VERY rare in NYC, especially in lower Manhattan: ample free, on-street parking. The strictly-enforced parking restrictions in the area end at 7:00PM and it becomes easy to find a space as there are few people living in the area and the workers have mostly gone home.
