“elevated sophistication”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

Elevate your expectations: if you have been to the former 'Fives' Restaurant at the Peninsula Hotel in New York and were -predictably- pleased, you should consider goung back and dine at Restaurant 'Clement', the over-the-top renovation of that same space.

A more modern interior, the grand entrance was kept intact, the bar kept private and intimate, the food as always spectacular, the wines of stellar quality, the service is hushed, never rushed.

The quiet atmosphere, the view from the second floor overlloking the bustle of Fifth Avenue, a true refuge for a gourmet experience. Elevated Sophistication!

“Christmas Eve Dinner, Great experience, Unbelievable service”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Had christmas eve dinner here with wife and two children (11 and 4). To start with they were excellent in taking our inquiry from overseas regarding our booking and kept in constant contact with us. We were looking for a special christmas eve dinner and attempted to make inquires at several other well known hotels/restaurants without the same level of service. When we arrived there we were taken to our table where we each had a "Peninsula" christmas tin with a number of deserts and the menu inside (great personal touch). We then enjoyed a number of courses where all the food was very high quality. At the end of our dinner the staff came to our children and gave them several "Peninsula" toys each. During the entire dinner the staff went out of their way to make the evening a very special one. Could not thank the staff enough for their service. Highly recommend.

“Perfect breakfast”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

My heart sings ... a truly perfect breakfast. One of those morning when you are treated like a princess. Service is SO good! And they had every little detail in place. I just felt relaxed and happy to be there. Please keep in mind that you might need a reservation weeks ahead but it's well worth it !!! We kicked the morning off with some Christal and fruit, followed by some excellent coffee (not as good as in Cuba tho) and scrambled eggs with bacon. Delightful. Place I would go back again and again and again... it will be my tradition for sure for my every NYC visit :)

“Not worth the price.”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

It is always sad when a place you have loved for years goes downhill. For many years, we have spent Thanksgiving and Christmas here. It was expensive, but they had an elegant selection and everything B chose was delicious. We had also introduced several friends to the place. But in the last several years, the quality has been slipping.Last years buffets really hit bottom. First of all, the price was way up to $150 per person. For this steep price, they actually had the nerve to off breakfast foods as part of the selection -eggs, bacon, sausage. Some of the other selections were somewhat high end, but the quality was disappointing. For example, they had small lobster tails, but they were tasteless. They had a couple of carvings, including Prime Rib. In the past, the quality of this roast has been flavorful and succulent. But in 2012, the roasts were mediocre. For $150/person, I expect better. We, as well as our friends, have decided to try somewhere else this year.

I have heard that the Fives has recently closed and a new restaurant, the Clement, is opening in the same space. But somehow, I am not optimistic that the quality will return to the peak the restaurant at the Peninsula Hotel had achieved in the past. In addition, the price last year was over the top even for great quality food, let alone mediocre fare.

The service was good and the dinner delicious together with a good wine list that needn't be too expensive. I have been here a few times and always live upto expectations.
