It's a tiny hidden place on 46 between 8 and 9 Ave
the omakase chef sushi and sashimi choice is heavenly prepared
The service is helpful and although we did not have a reservation we succeeded twice
Nice choice of appetizers and also a big variety of delicious Sake.
Definitely will come back

Have been dining at Sushi of Gari 46 periodically for the past 6 years. Now that I've moved to Asia, I still haven't found anything quite like Sushi of Gari. Hence, I still come to this place each time I visit NYC. I've tried most of their regular menu sushi items -- found them to be consistently fresh and each piece masterfully cut and presented. However, if it's your first time here, I highly recommend ordering the omakase (leaving up to the chef) and request to be seated at the sushi bar, where the sushi chef cuts and rolls the fish and rice in front of you. In my most recent visit, I must have had over 20 pieces -- they just kept coming until I was about to enter into a rice-coma and had to signal the chef to stop! Each piece in the omakase menu was uniquely flavorful. And each item came with its special sauce (additional soy sauce / wasabi can be added but not necessary). For the price and quality, the omakase at Sushi of Gari is simply peerless. Definitely recommend this place over the other renowned sushi places in town (including Yasuda and 15 East). The place isn't very big and the sushi bar will seat about 8 people -- so you'll need to book in advance.

Food creative, fresh, and just the best in every way.
Casual setting but not inexpensive but worth having the freshest sushi and sashimi available.

This is a "chain", i went to this one in the theatre district, i saw another next to Bouley at tribeca

Most of the staff are japanese, but i notice the chefs have been "westernised", they were joking with each other occasionally. You'll never see this in japan, or a high end japanese place like sushi yasuda on 43rd NY

They get half their fish from tokyo and the other half locally

I chose the 9 piece set and most of it was good. The raw lobster sushi was a stand-out

A semi casual environment and i felt overdressed in my suit. The many groups of teenage asian kids did not help
