While it is not Central Park it is the heart of Greenwich Village. You will see families with their children and the students of NYU hanging out. A nice escape while you explore this part of Manhattan

When I first moved to NY and visited here, I just loved it. Not because it is so beautiful, but because it felt so New Yorky and familiar. A number of movies have been filmed here so you might feel the same way. Musicians and other cool stuff.

We did lots of walking on this day and it was nice to come upon Wash. square near Greenwich Village/Soho. There were a group of people playing guitars and singing and people w kids playing, it had a nice neighbourhood feel.

There were a lot of quirky people hanging around. There were quite a few chess hustlers and the park had the feel of the 1960's

Haven't been since this summer, but usually I only go when it's bright and sunny out. The square is a great spot to people watch, take in street performers, and other artists. The last time I was there a local college's acapella group was singing. There's always food cart vendors (pretzels, nuts, drinks, ice cream), so you can grab a snack, sit back and relax.
