Great place just to sit and see the World go by. Local speakers huddle in groups and it is a place to feel the city energy but relax and chill out.

If you are looking for a good place just to sit and watch people this is one of them. There are little street vendors so if your thirsty or hungry and you want to relax this is the place.

We were there in the midst of everything. Groups of people gathered in small clusters - singing, dancing, playing instruments, artists drawing/painting, skaters, kids and dogs playing in their respective park areas, and the constables on patrol walking by. Washington Square Park is a lovely place to visit especially in the warmer months there's never a dull moment.

Sure back in the 1960s Washington Square Park was the place to be for ad hoc lively political discussions, music and more. Then it descended into a drug hangout. Now? Nothing memorable...

beautiful park \with famous landmark in an unusual area of New York where old townhouses remain beautiful. Right at NYU and the end of lower 5th Ave
