Bryant park is vibrant and jam packed with tourists and locals of the neighbouring boroughs alike. if you are visiting between Xmas eve and New Years Eve Expect long line ups to get into the skate rental/ locker area. If you have a "New York Pass" which can be purchased online, you can speed through the line and gain entry right away. But standing in line really isnt all that bad. As you pace along in the qeue, there are small vendors selling warm food items including fresh donuts, peanuts, pretzels and such. Each vendor is in a small wooden hut type structure, personalised by some sort of art. You also get alook at the merry go round and surrounding buildings at a slowed down pace. I personally found that standing in line gave me a chance to slow down and take in the surroundings. But if your on a tight schedule and cant afford 45 mins to an hour in line, then I suggest you go with the New York pass.
Skates cost 14 per pair. For some reason they are all mens skates so if you are a woman asking for your size, they just give you 2 sizes smaller in a mens skate which I found to be really tight - but they are friendly and will exchanfge sizes if you ask. You can also rent a big blue 'sac' to put your shoes and other belongings into for $5.00. if you are in a large group, rent this bag and have it put aside. It works out to be much cheaper and more convenient than a locker.
Overall it’s a great experience! The big great tree covered in lights, the café faces the rink and is completely see in with all glass coverings. Its all lovely!

Bryant park is a true treasure, a jewel in the crown of New York City. Nestled between towering skyscrapers and busy streets is a wonderful lush garden where you can really unwind. We always make plans as soon as we arrive in New York to have lunch at the Bryant Park Grill. The food and wine are excellent, but it's being surrounded by the beauty of the trees that is so worth while in this amazing city. We're taking my mum for her 65th birthday this April and Bryant park will be our first port of call.

My partner and I kept on coming back to Bryant Park many times at night during our two weeks in New York. It truly was magical with a huge blue and white Christmas tree (I liked it better than the tree at Rockefeller) and the little stalls and ice rink made it so special! Highly recommend you experience this if in New York.

Used to be the home of half the drug addicts and homeless in the city. The park a\has come a long way since those days and is well worth the visit. Great people watching lunch spot in the warm weather but activities all year long.

Went skating here with our two kids over Christmas, what can I say, Manhatten skyline in background with huge Chritmas tree at one end, sun shining and Frank Sinatra playing, a really special experience. Does get quite busy by lunchtime but I can see why. Loved it, however didn't really explore shops or cafes.
