“Perfect NYC Getaway”
Reviewed September 9, 2013 via mobile

Governor's Island is the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, My wife Lancy and I really enjoyed the incredible skyline and harbor views as well as relaxing on the grass. There are also plenty of things to do such as bicycling and sightseeing. We will be going back.

“A wonderful day trip”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

On a warm summer day I decided to head out by myself to check out Governors Island. The pier in Brooklyn that the free ferry leaves from is not easy to get to by subway, but once you do it's worth it. The view of Manhattan as you head out to the island is pretty spectacular. Once on the island there were maps able to be purchased, and just up the hill from the ferry was a place you could hire bikes from. I grabbed a bike for three hours and headed off to explore. What a wonderful place it is. There's still a lot of development happening on the island, but from what I could see it was pretty awesome. There was a sculpture garden which was fascinating, and lots of old houses of Governors. The history of the place was great. On the weekend I was there, it was Civil War weekend, so there were re-enactments of the battles and 'soldiers' were sleeping in tents with only what they would've had during the Civil War (eg. sleeping mats, food, violin). It was great. I biked around the island a few times which was nice and you have a great view of Lady Liberty, especially from the castle! An absolutely wonderful day. I can't wait to go back.

“Fete Paradiso on Governor's Island - ooo la la”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

A traveling attraction on Governor's Island open only on weekends through to Sept 29, 2013 10:30am to 6:30pm. It really is not to be missed. Wonderfully restored vintage carnival rides and games put together to represent an old time French Carnival. Some rides, like the one resembling bicycles, I have never seen before. Terrific photos on their website, www.feteparadiso.com Rides and games are $3 each. Admission is free. Should you go? Oui! Oui!

“Beautiful park”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

On a hot summer day we took the free ferry from Brooklyn's waterfront park to the island. They have bikes you can rent or you can bring your own. This island has some great history and a great view of Manhattan skyline. Another ferry (free) will take you right to lower manhattan. We hit an Irish pub to cool off and continue our sights of the city on the new Citibike program.
