Owner description: The Met opened in 1883 and is one of the most famous opera houses in the country today.

What is there to say about the Met. This is one of the great shrines of the opera world, beautiful in every way and with a lovely lovely sound. Despite the sad fact that grand opera is becoming less popular with each passing generation, and that the Met is suffering from falling revenues and mediocre management, it is still one of the jewels in the crown of New York City. A visit is a must, and if you chance to hear one of the great classics of opera (and there are many) it will open your eyes and your soul to the true meaning of beauty.

Tried my luck with a rush ticket and ended up on a second row orchestra seat. As a student, I couldn't have wished for much more. Words couldn't describe the performance. The set, the music, the feelings. Went there on a whim, but what a great one it was. The Lincoln Center in itself with its interior is a sight to see in itself.

Ballet has been put back on the map since Nureyev and Barishnikov, with the movie Black Swan and Misty Copeland, amongst other great performers. The athleticism and charisma of the dancers is thrilling. Even if you are not such a fan, it is amazing to watch. I also noticed it was a packed house on a Tuesday evening, which almost rivals the Bolshoi goers in Moscow. Yay for NY!

This year the ballet created a Saturday matinee series that children will enjoy. Cinderella was a big hit, but my granddaughter has enjoyed the 2 other ballets as well. The Met has made this series very user friendly, and the price of seats for children is 1/2 of that for adults. A welcome respite from the high price of seats.
