“Potentially a great experience, despite Peter Gelb”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

The greatest opera orchestra, fantastic chorus and when a good director and great cast come together (like the recent Werther) there's nothing like the Met experience. But all too frequently there are just routine performances and/or weird productions that show off the director's ego, not the composer's or librettist's intent.

“Over the top Grand”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Only if you like opera... However, the production values are excellent. The orchestra is world renowned and the productions are amazing. Of course, the orchestra is wonderful, but also the Balcony in the front if you don't mind seeing ants perform has bood acoustics and much better prices. STanding room is sometimes available but much sought after.

“Amazing singers; beautiful sets and costumes”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

Went there for "Prince Igor" and "The Enchanted Island", two operas I've never heard before. The singing and sets were dazzling. The Met is incomparable in the U.S. for opera. Go, if you love opera.

“So disappointed”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

I saw prince Igor performance 20 years ago by mariinsky theatre and it was like been in the fairy tale. The setting decorations costumes were rich and fabulous. You are taking to 12 century where events unfolded. Metro twisted the plot and one is lost in time and space. Costumes were very poor and polovetskie dances so famous from the opera are not impressive at all in modern style. I am very disappointed with metro opera

“If you love the opera, take the backstage tour!”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

I have attended live performances at the Met, but since I don't live in NYC I mostly attend the Live in HD performances at a local movie theatre. Taking the 1.5 hour backstage tour was a real treat - seeing the workings of the enormous stage, the costume workshop, a dressing room, and a peek into a rehearsal room where two famous stars were in rehearsal. The tour guide was enormously knowledgable.
There is a lot of walking on the trip, and quite a bit of standing. One elderly woman brought a portable stool, which seemed to work well.
