just the perfect place to go if you like art, or you are on a date, or you want to feel like Jacky Kennedy, or you are Chagall fan, or you love architecture, and of course, if you are an opera fan.
Best place for a first timer.

Such a beautiful theatre and the opera was so mesmerizing. The building is old but has great character, and there are few places you can go where people dress up, so that was a nice change. A great New York experience.

Saw Rigoletto in April, had front row Grand Tier seats- fantastic view and acoustics. The performance was fantastic, modern but still had the feel of the opera. The opera house itself is beautiful and interesting in its own right. A must do, if even once. FYI, there is a subtitle system that is excellent in front of your seat, so no worries if you don't speak the language the opera is in, it is displayed so you can follow the story. If you would find it distracting its easily turned off as well.

I love Metropolitan Opera. I go there 10-15 times a year. It's a wonderful experience. The Opera is so grand but it's welcoming at the same time. I feel privileged to live in New York and visit Met often.

I've never warmed to what we still call 'the new house', which opened at Lincoln Centre in 1966 after the old Met was closed and demolished. Nowadays, thanks to an enlightened administration, most of the world is able to sample the excellence of the world's greatest opera company by the transmission of Saturday matinee performances to cinemas throughout the world by HD. We first saw this production of Siegfried in an HD transmission in London and were so impressed by the performance of Jay Hunter Morris in the title role that we simply had to see him in the flesh to hear if he was as effective without the amplification of a broadcast. He was! Indeed, in the final scene, he still astounded by having even more voice than the soprano who was fresh after Morris had been singing for nearly four hours! Wow! Only the Met of all the world's opera houses can do this.
