Owner description: Enormous 13th-century-style Gothic church on Madison Avenue, with a seating capacity of 2,200, rose window reaching 26 feet across, pipe organ with more than 7,380 pipes and the graceful twin spires that reach 330 feet into the sky.

NOTE: the cathedral is undergoing a 5 year restoration, so the exterior and a large portion of the interior are covered with scaffolding.
Located right in the centre of midtown, across from Rockefeller Centre stands St. Patrick's Cathedral - spiritual centre of the New York Catholic Archdiocese.
The cathedral building is in the Gothic Revival style and took some 21 years to erect, finished in 1878.
The building is 332' by 174', at the transepts. The spires rise some 330' from street level.
Definitely walk around the altar with its bronze baldachin and walk around to the Lady's Chapel with beautiful stained glass windows.

The most beautiful church in the world, next to the churches in Europe. Christmas is the most spectacular time to visit - you actually feel the magic & warmth of such a fast pace city.

The cathedral is currently full od scaffolding so I didn't see it at its best. Having visited many cathedrals in Europe I'm sorry to say that ,even without the work going on, this Cathedral is nothing to write home about. Poke your head in if you're in the area but don't bother going out of your way to go and visit it unless you're going to a service.
