They constantly try to better the roads going to this great, great bridge. It was the first of this new design of the day. So over supported that when they added the lower desk, no additional holding supports were needed. Great job for this beautiful masterpiece.

Nothing in this review deals with driving across the GWB, which is a nightmare in rush hour. But on weekends, walking or biking over the bridge is just gorgeous. It's a very different view of Manhattan than on the Brooklyn Bridge, and the bridge itself is awesome. Hikers and bikers continue on to River Road, eight miles of road along the Hudson that's closed to traffic, so if you're thinking of going over the bridge, turn left when you're in New Jersey, follow the bike traffic, and in about 1/4 of a mile you'll see the park.

Because of the road repairs going on, there are signs staying to stay to the left if you're traveling from Manhattan to NJ since you cannot exit in Manhattan the closer you get to the GWB if you are in the left lane. The best thing to do is stay in the far left/passing lane (if you and your constitution/car can bear it) and stay in the far left lane going over the GWB (upper level) since the middle lane has a merge with cars coming from the other roads into it and then the three lanes going under the apartments lose the right lane so you have the traffic from the merge and the right lane coming into the penultimate left lane. You do need to keep up with the traffic though so this only works if you can really drive (if you're the type who have other drivers flashing their lights at you or honking at you since you're either driving 30 miles an hour because of the horrible surface or chatting on the phone or texting and you shouldn't be anyway, forget it).

It's always interesting to go over the George Washington Bridge (less so when traffic is bad, which is often is). The view is lovely on both sides of the bridge, either looking at lower Manhattan or the Palisades on the Hudson.

How can you enjoy the GW Bridge? Hard to get to, packed with bomber to bomber cars. Not easy unless you pass by, but then what?
