“A special place in NYC. Jay is the secret sauce.”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

My family spent a few days in NYC and our visit was made that much more special with our stay at this little special place in Chelsea. Jay, the owner, is what makes this place so special. He is very knowledgeable about all the things to see and the best local places to eat and eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We felt like coming home each evening and waking up in our home each day with a nice relaxing simple breakfast.

Please note that if you enjoy the uniformity of a large chain hotel, this is not the place for you. However, if you want to stay at a place where you truly feel that the owner wants and enjoys you being there, then I highly recommend Chelsea Pines Inn.

Fantastic 4 night stay. The attention to detail & welcome from all staff is unsurpassed. Rooms small but quirky, it really is a hidden gem. Location very good. We spent 15 nights travelling around the States & this was the best hotel experience of our whole trip.

Chelsea Pines Inn in New York City is the best kept secret in New York. The quaint rooms are splendidly decorated, comfortable and clean while offering all of the amenities you could possibly ask for. The staff assists up and beyond in recommending entertainment and sites off the beaten path that would have remained unknown without their help. We stay exclusively at Chelsea Pines Inn and have never been disappointed. Once you try them you will never stay anywhere else. It is truly our home away from home.

We were New York first-timers and our son found us this Inn. 'Yeah, It'll be great, trust me...' The Reception staff had arranged for a car to collect us from the airport and we were soon in the Jeff Chandler Room making plans. What to see? Where to go? Ask Reception! Throughout our stay they were faultless. Nothing was too much trouble and all of their restaurant recommendations were first class. And how many hotels have their own daily newspaper? And their own daily bread, made by the owner? And a cat that looks like Charlie Chaplin (or, in a different light, Hitler)? The al-fresco breakfast set us up every day and the staff were always interested to hear of our exploits when we arrived back. It was like staying with good friends that you have known for years. Jay, the owner, is worth the trip on his own! He spent his time teaching me how to say New York' properly (NU YAWK), but had to admit that I had 'Noo Joisey' down pat! The party to welcome summer was a blast and everyone working at the Inn was unfailingly charming and helpful. The location is brilliant - next to the subway, in Chelsea, a couple of streets from the Village and in walking distance (I know - we did it) of every location you could want to visit in this great city. But it's the owner and staff that make this place SO special. Wonderful, warm, amusing and intelligent. Maybe one day all hotels will be like this. But in the meantime, we'll keep this place to ourselves.....

Room Tip: The rooms at the back overlook the small garden/patio area

I cannot speak highly enough of Chelsea Pines Inn! I traveled to NY with 2 friends in the beginning on July & from the moment we arrived we were given such wonderful service and advice.
Our room (The Paul Newman Room) was lovely - very well maintained & had everything we needed :)
Jay (the owner) made us feel very welcome, helping us out with iedas of things to do, places to go, shows to see & places to eat.
The breakfast was amazing (a great way to wake up everyday!) and really made our stay even better.
As far as location goes, its literally about 6 doors up from a subway station and in a great neighbourhood right near Greenwich Village & The Meatpacking District.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :)

More than just an inn, the Chelsea Pines feels like home in NYC. Situated squarely in the vibrant Chelsea community with fine art galleries, great restaurants, the Chelsea market, the High Line park, and a convenient subway stop on the corner, the Chelsea Pines is ideal for melding into the NYC experience. The caring and attentive staff treats you like family. A delightful breakfast (24 hour expresso) in a quiet courtyard is the perfect way to start your day. We could not have had a better stay and we look forward to our next visit. Please hold our room :-)

The location is perfect (basically walk out the front door and into the 14th Street subway station). There are plenty of awesome shops and restaurants that in walking distance to you. Plus the High Line (a must see if you are in this section of NYC).

I am already biased towards smaller boutique hotels, but they get everything correct here. The rooms (love the old movie star theme and very well executed), the staff (so helpful from before check in - I had a couple of special requests as it was my wife's birthday - until after check out), the breakfast (they actually leave food out until a reasonable time - I cannot tell you how many times I have missed complimentary breakfasts because I actually wanted to sleep in on vacation).

You are not going to find a better experience for the price in the heart of neighborhood like Chelsea.
