“Great Location - Looks Good, But Unhandy”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

My husband and I stayed here a week with a group tour of New York City and were the first occupants of a refurbished room. The hotel is centrally located in Mid-Town within walking distance to The Empire State Building, Broadway, Times Square, Madison Square Garden, and the subway. We were very happy with the cleanliness. The room was very small with one chair, but we had a great view of The Empire State Building from our window and the bed was comfortable (pillows were a little fat for our taste). There was a large make-up mirror in the bathroom, a hair dryer, a small flat screen TV on the wall and a safe. Check-in and check-out was easy. The two hotel restaurants were adequate. There's a McDonald's across the street and lots of great food nearby (Recommend: Stage Door, Uncle Nick's, and Chef Yu).

All this being said, there were some drawbacks: lots of towels but very few towel bars (we actually went and purchased a multi-hook from K-Mart which is close-by. There was also limited counter space in the bathroom - impossible for two people to use at the same time. The closet is small and the safe is so high you have to climb on a chair to use it! There was lots of street noise - we tried to buy a sound machine, but apparently this is a foreign concept in New York City! There was no tub. The walk-in shower was nice once it was on; unfortunately you could not turn it on without being in the shower, so had to go through a freeze blast before the actual shower could take place. The sealing around the door was poor, so light from the hall came in at night. There was free coffee in the room. The first night there was free water, but it was never replaced. We stayed a week and a couple of those nights had to go foraging for towels in our floor's main linen closet because the staff never replaced them.

There were guards downstairs before you went up on the elevators. However one night we were wakened at 4am with some people screaming and running around on our floor. We just stayed in our locked room and hoped for the best - never did find out what it was all about.

We looked at some other floors that had not been renovated and they looked shabby - not sure what you'd get if you got one of those rooms.

Even with all of these things, we felt the hotel was worth staying in for the location and the cleanliness.

Room Tip: If you don't mind small rooms, ask for the newly renovated ones.

Green Features: They have a policy that sheets are changed every 3 days. Towels on the floor are replaced daily (sometimes)

Booked my reservation in advance online. Definitely sold out that week I visited and did not have available rooms when I wanted to extend my stay. Convenient location to the subway and within walking distance to many places. For the price, the room was great and comfortable for 1 person.

We had a girls weekend planned and stayed at The New Yorker. It was in walking distance of Times Square and lots of shopping on 34th street. It felt good to come in from all the hustle and bustle of the streets to a nice and quiet spot. The front staff were helpful and friendly. The security and bell staff were great too. We booked a suite and it was on the 23rd floor with an amazing view of the Empire State Building. It fit 5 of us comfortably and all though we only had one washroom, it worked for what we needed. It had an in room safe which was great. The room could use a few more outlets including one by the one and only mirror outside the washroom. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet short of some street noise.

Room Tip: apparently there are suites with two washrooms if you have multiple people in your group. We had a...

First of all, the location of the New Yorker is excellent. It's about 1 block from Penn Station in Midtown NY. If you're traveling by train, and have luggage, the location alone makes this a good hotel to consider. The front desk staff was friendly, and check in was easy. My one complaint is that the room was very small. i.e. the closet door when opened nearly touched the bed. It was fine for my one-night stay for business, but if there's mor than one person in the room it would be very cramped.

Me and my mom stayed at the New Yorker hotel three weeks ago. The experience was good. We got a free upgrade to a bigger room with two big beds which was great! The hotel itself is old, but everything functions. The neighborhood is not my first choice. Too close to Times Square etc. Really busy (no noise though! 26th floor...) But this is my personal opinion. If you are really into the touristy bits then it is the place to be!

I just wanted to write a positive review for Jaret who was at the desk when I came down asking for a phone charger, hoping that they had one left in the lost and found. They didn't, but she volunteered her personal one, pulling it out of her purse right there and letting me borrow it. Thanks a lot, overall the staff was very great!

We stayed for one week in this hotel. On arrival, everything ran smoothly and was explained to us in detail. All the staff at the New Yorker hotel are extremley friendly and always willing to help. We made friends witha number of the staff as they were always up for havihng a conversation with you.

The room is a good size and has free wifi and a tv with numerous channels. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and bedding and restocking of any toiletries you had used. It also came with a safe which was easy to use for everyone as you could create your own code. This safe was in a wasdrobe which gave you plenty of room for storing your bags. The view from your room is also great!!

The location of this hotel is great for first time New Yorkers as you havre everything around it such as times sqaure, madison square garden, empire state building and not to mention subways (underground) near by.

If you're also looking for more to do during your stay there is also a gym and business centre downstairs, along with a diner in the hotel which is open 24/7. We would definitely come back to this hotel in the future.
