“Wonderfully Suited for a Sister Getaway”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

The New Yorker is a grand old hotel. My first trip to NYC was 45 years ago as a teenager and this is where I stayed. There have been many changes since then and I was glad to be able to stay here again. My sister and I got away for a couple days. The price was right for our budget. We were early for check-in, but the woman who served us was friendly, efficient and helpful. She checked us in, gave us our room number (although, not ready) and pointed us in the direction to place our bags. That was efficient, as well. Our room was on the 26th floor. No views, but a spacious suite, with a separate sitting area with desk. We were especially glad to have a small refrigerator. The free wi-fi was a big plus. The room was clean. The bathroom was rather small, not much shelf space (1!) for 2 girls paraphernalia, but adequate.
Location was convenient. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere in Midtown.
The Tic Toc restaurant next door was easy to get too for a quick lunch.
The only thing we didn't like was upon check out, we couldn't leave our bags to pick up later without being charged a fee.
Compared to other places we've stayed and also checked out price wise, this was a great bargain for an expensive city.
We will stay there again!

we were coming to New York to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. I emailed the hotel before hand hoping they would make our stay extra special and they certainly did that. On checking in we were informed we had been upgraded to a suite which was on the 40th floor with amazing views of the empire state building through one window and the other was a view of the financial district and the statue of liberty, we were then given a bottle of champagne and free vouchers to breakfast, The hotel is lovely and clean and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast in the Tic Toc diner which was lovely and staff were also very friendly and efficient. I would certainly stay in this hotel again as the location is perfect with almost all major attractions in walking distant.

Room Tip: room 4005 is very spacious and has amazing views with tea and coffee facilities .

Hotel is situated perfectly to visit the sights of New York with the Empire State visible from certain rooms. We used this hotel as a base to explore the city - The rooms are small but work fine as generally you are in and back out again in a city like New York! The decor is a little tired but this is a old building with lots of history which I guess adds to its charm... The restaurant and diner off the lobby work well for snacks, however there is a Starbucks across the road and lots of other choices throughout the city. We did have a very negative experience with the concierge who was very rude to not only us, but several other holiday-makers, because of this we booked our trips and transfers to the airport elsewhere, my wife was quite upset and it did put a downer on the experience at the hotel. Overall, in terms of location hotel is great, in terms of concierge very disappointing.

We spent a very enjoyable week in New York and stayed at this hotel for the duration. The staff at the New Yorker were very friendly and attentive, especially Mohammed on the front desk.

The room we were given, a metro room for 3 people on the 20th floor, was spacious (including 2 bathrooms) and well maintained. It was also kept very clean by housekeeping staff on a daily basis. The room had an 'easy to use' safe located in the wardrobe which we used.

The location of the hotel is ideal for arrival via Penn station from either JFK or Newark airports as the station is virtually across the road. Transfer from the airport was straight forward and a relatively quick journey.

This hotel is ideally situated for a tourist in NYC. It's not far from Macy's store and the Empire State Building. This is the second time I have stayed here and would definitely recommend to others.

Room Tip: Ask for room 2024 but bear in mind it is New York and the traffic never stops!

It's located beside Madison Square Garden. Very useful if you've planned to see any show on it (NBA, concert, etc). It has old fashioned elements and our room had a bathtub. It's a bit annoying because I prefer a shower. Each room has a flat TV and each floor has about six lifts. Every corridor is carpeting as usual in New York but we didn't smelt any strange odour.
This hotel has a good private security in front of the elevators and the avoid any strange access to your room without your key card. It's perfect to save your cash if you compare with others hotels near Manhattan. We spent about 100€ per night.
I'll absolutely recommend it to my friends if they don't want to spend a big amount.

Room Tip: Choose as high as you can and if it's possible driven to East. You'll have a beautiful lands...

We spent a week here on a group tour (Road Scholar) and added on nights at the end at our own expense. Considering that our room was at the lower end of the price range, it was really great for us; it had been made by combining two small, older rooms and was very roomy with two double beds. But the best part was that it retained the original bathrooms and closets, so we had two separate bathrooms and closets! Very convenient since they were each pretty small on their own.

Service was also excellent, with a large and friendly staff at all points. We had to call housekeeping to send up another blanket and to get some extra coffee, and in both cases they were at the door in short order with exactly what we wanted.

The hotel location is very convenient to a couple of the major subway lines as well as Penn Station. Our room was on the 24th floor on the 8th Avenue side and although we had no view out the window (faced the rooms on the other side of an alcove), it was as quiet as you could expect in a city like this. In any case, I slept well the entire time.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up are quieter.

This hotel had a gorgeous view and our room was always lovely and clean. The hotel was perfectly situated which meant we were walking distance from Times Square, Empire State Building and hundreds of subway stations!! Only fault was my card was charged when we checked in without being warned and I had used a travel card so I lost $180 dollars that I wouldn't get back until I was back in the UK! We were just told they needed the card details in case we had room service etc. So use a credit card instead!!
