“Great location and Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

Just came back from a 4 night stay at the New Yorker over the July 4th weekend. The hotel is well situated close to the Blue and Red subway lines which makes it easy to get around as well it is walking distance to many shops and restaurants. As with most hotels in New York the rooms are small but they are clean and well maintained. I was not disappointed staying here.

I stayed at the New Yorker for a conference in June. First, the good:
- The centrally located hotel is easy to get to—and if you're traveling for work, there are very close delis, a Duane Reade and a Starbucks right across the street. All essential for an easy business trip.
- The room, while not large, was clean and the bed was comfortable.
- The staff seemed nice.
- I loved the old sign and the historic elements of the hotel.

Now, the less good:
- The bathroom needed a serious makeover. The lighting was bad and everything just felt old. Vintage has its place, but for me, that place is not the bathroom!
- The meeting rooms were freezing. Not just "help you stay awake" chilly, but freezing.

Overall, I would stay here again if I had a good reason, but I would probably seek out something more modern.

This was our first time visiting New York and we chose the New Yorker. We had a room with an amazing view that we weren't expecting at all! We could see the Empire State, Chrysler Building and Madison Square garden. The rooms are really clean and comfortable. The bathroom seemed a little dated but again, was really clean and perfect for us. Already looking into going back again this year!

The staff was extremely friendly & helpful. The suite we had was huge, which is saying a lot in NYC!

I stay at different hotels is New York couple times a year and this time it was The New Yorker hotel. The hotel is located at the business area; may be convenient for business purposes but it is not a good location for touristic stays. More than that, the standard room was so small that only the bed and the very tiny desk were just fitted. The bathroom was so tiny that you can not move if you don't close the door. The decoration is old and tasteless. Although the staff is friendly, I would not choose this hotel again in NY where for this money you can find better hotels at better places.

My wife and I recently stayed at the New Yorker for a short get away to NYC. It is very close to Penn Station (right across the street) and is in a very convenient location to site see. The room was clean and the staff we encountered were very friendly. We arrived early and they allowed us to check in with no problem. It is not the most quiet room we have ever stayed in as the old pipes tend to creak. We rode to the AirTrain and subway to the hotel, which was simple, fairly cheap and convenient. When we left, we took a taxi because it was so early in the morning (4:00 am for about $40). The room was very small, but I am sure this is typical for a NYC hotel and no different than the rooms that I have stayed at in E. It didn't really matter because we weren't in the room very often because we played the typical tourist and went all over. The first day we walked and walked and walked. The second day we decided to get on a site seeing bus. It was a good way to see the City.
