“Great hotel, great location.”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

At first, connection from JFK airport is great. The subway stops right under hotel. Hotel is ideally placed for sightseeing NY. Rooms are really good, very clean. Ask for room facing east, because of the view. Try breakfast at Tick Tock Diner in hotel building. Staff is very helpful and polite. Security is also very good. Free wireless is very nice, enough sped for mails IP calls etc.
I also liked option for leaving bags on my check out day for couple of hours.

All in all if I ever come to NY again, New Yorker hotel will be my first option to check for room.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floor are more quiet. NY is loud city. Rooms facing east have great look at Empire.

We choose to stay at The New Yorker every time we visit New York City. This hotel is perfectly located near Penn Station, the theatre district and many great restaurants. The renovations give this iconic hotel even more warmth. The Tic Tock Diner connected to the hotel is very convenient anytime of the day. And a second restaurant/lounge is also right next door.
The entire staff is professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Yes, friendly and caring. They are there for you, their guest. It is our home away from home while in New York.

I stayed for a week at the New Yorker in December 2010 with a friend.

We were given a 2 queen bed corner room, which we weren't expecting. The hotel had originally been booked for my friend and her now ex-boyfriend, so we were expecting to have to share a bad, so this was a lovely surprise on checking in.

The beds/pillows were the comfiest i have ever slept on, which unfortunately meant that we slept slightly more than we had planned to in the "city that never sleeps".

We had some issues with water in the shower, which didn't have great pressure and the temperature seemed to depend on other nearby rooms showering habits. However, on the 20-something floor we weren't expecting excellent water pressure.

The staff were quick to get us checked in and were helpful in arranging a car to take us to the airport. We did find that we sometimes had to wait a while to access out safety deposit box as priority was given to checking guests in. This is fair enough, but got a little frustrating through the week. A safe in the room would have been a perfect remedy.

The diner in the lobby does excellent banana pancakes that will set you up for a day of walking, so I definitely recommend that.

Oh and the best part? The guy playing Xmas songs on the piano in the lobby. We hadn't heard him all week, and just as we were leaving for the airport he began to play "White Christmas"- an absolutely perfect end to the trip!

This hotel is excellently situation in Midtown New York, opposite Madison Square Gardens and Penn Station making it very convenient for the AirTrain/LIRR from JFK (which is much cheaper and quicker than a taxi!). Being in Midtown it is ideally suited for visiting all of New York's sites and is only 5 blocks from the Empire State Building which can be viewed from a lot of the hotel's rooms. There is a subway station right next to the hotel too which is very handy!

The hotel itself was built in the 1920's and is still decorated in the style of the 1930's which makes a real change from most usual big city hotels which all seem to be very similar these days. The rooms are small but that's pretty standard for New York and you don't visit to spend hours in your hotel room anyway! They have everything you need and the beds are especially comfortable. The bathrooms all have very powerful showers which are great. The hotel bedooms start on floor 20 of the building, going up to floor 40, so are high enough up not to me affected by noise from the outside. Decent air-conditioning help keep the rooms cool enough. Everything was imaculately clean too.

The staff at the hotel and all very friendly and helpful. Check-in was a little slow but it was very busy and I was given free breakfasts for the duration of my stay which was a bonus. The breakfast room is on the 39th floor and have amazing views of the ESB and Downtown!!

The hotel has two eating venues in the building - Coopers Tavern and the Tick Tock Diner. Both are excellent, especially with the Tick Tock Diner being open 24 hours a day.

Check in personnel are particularly accommodating and have always attempted to find me a room which will meet my needs for a week of work. Housekeepers are equally fine, room is always perfectly cleaned. Attached restaurants very good, too.

Room Tip: Request room w/ desk if you need one.

Very polite staff, spotless room and comfortable bed. Bathroom sparkling clean. We have stayed at this hotel for quite a few years and have never been disappointed. The location is perfect being near Penn Station and there are several good restaurants very close. It wouldn't be a trip to the New Yorker if you didn't get breakfast at the Tick Tock Diner. It is attached to the hotel. very good food for a reasonable price. Feel very safe when staying here as security is always present in the lobby checking out people going to the elevators. Every time you see housekeeping in the hallway they go out of their way to speak and are very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Empire State building or the River. Corner balcony rooms are awesome.
