Stayed for one night close to Penn Station to make an early train. The price was right at $178, but this was the smallest hotel room I have had anywhere. The room had a queen bed and a desk and barely room to walk around the bed. Everything was clean and I had movie channels at no cost. The hotel is very much art deco and quite well restored. I had a simple fish and chips dinner at the Tick Tock diner which you can enter from the hotel lobby. At breakfast however (before 6 AM) there was three or four homeless people sleeping in booths. One got kind of loud when he was apparently asked to leave. Who needs that?

On arrival reception staff weren't pleasant at all nor very helpful (and I thought I was the one who just got off an 8 hour flight!) but hey ho they pointed us in the direction of our rooms. I found a tab end under my bed side cabinet when I arrived so was very cautious of how clean the rest of my room would be but found nothing else. Room was nice size. Wardrobe limited space for the two of us so had to live out of our cases. Ideally would have liked an amazing view of Manhattan from our window but no such luck. Location was great 2 minute walk to Macy's about 5-10 min walk to Times Square. Located next door (accessible from the hotel lobby) was the Tic Toc diner it was fab, what I call 'proper American dining' definitely recommend a visit! Little gift show in the basement also handy especially for any last minute gifts! Overall hotel was ok. Would recommend on basis of location but if you're wanting to wake up to a lovely view every morning I'd ask specifically when booking.

Looking for a convenient hotel near Penn Station as we were traveling out of Newark Liberty, we selected this hotel based upon other TA reviews. Without requesting, the front desk informed us that the manager had given us an upgrade to a huge suite - quite the unexpected treat. Even if the room were smaller, I would choose this lovely Art Deco hotel again for its convenient central location. Hotel is about a block away from Penn Station, and the NJ Transit train followed by the AirTrain tram takes about 30 minutes total to connect. If you are looking for a quick inexpensive dinner, track down the nearby Go Go Curry, one of only few world outposts of this Tokyo staple.

We really enjoyed our stay at The New Yorker. I was pleased to see that we were checked in by Mohammed who is mentioned in numerous reviews. He got us a great room. It was very large and pretty and had a wonderful view of the river in the day and the city at night. The bathroom was old but functional and very clean as was the entire hotel. The service and all the personnel were extremely helpful, friendly and polite. The hotel was located across from Penn Station, near the subway line, and in walking distance of Times Square. The lobby was very pretty. We ate at the Tick Tock Café which had good food and quick service. Overall a great stay.

we picked this hotel purely on the more positive comments,if you go for the basic room as we did you will be dissapointed very small no tea/coffee but it was clean and we had a nice bed, location is ok dont be put off by using the tube train right outside the hotel you can buy a smart card for 10$ and get about 4 trips arond manhatten and you can top up your card when needed.the tic tock restaurant was good we just used it for breakfast.the conciege was helpfull in booking tickets for shows, also arranged our transfer pick up to the airport,on the whole value for money glad i never paid for a more luxury hotel as we only slept there.

Room Tip: go for the upgrade
