What can you realistically expect for $36 in one of the most expensive cities in America?
I was slightly worried when I discovered I was in a twelve bed dorm, and I do think your stay would depend on who you're sharing with. Luckily, all the girls in my room were either on their own or with one friend, so there was no crazy partying going on until all hours of the morning, and in fact I found it very easy to sleep soundly, even with the traffic outside.
My bed was very comfortable, and there was plenty of space for all my things. All showers and toilets were shared facilities on the floor, and the showers weren't great, but they were adequate and did the job. One thing I hate about America is there's always gaps in the doors! Do they not enjoy privacy?!
Although the hostel isn't in an absolute prime location, I felt very safe in the area, it's a short walk to the subway, and from there, it's very easy to get anywhere in the city. It's also a couple of blocks from Central Park, which is very useful. Plus the staff were incredibly helpful and there are a couple of really good common rooms where you can meet so many people.
Absolutely fantastic value, overall.More
