“Good value for Manhattan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

Stayed here for two nights as part of an organised tour in December 2013.

We arrived during mid-afternoon - there isn't a huge amount of space to stop outside the hostel so we ended up double parking and heading in. Our rooms weren't ready, so we left our luggage in the storage room and headed out to Central Park (about a 10 mins walk away). When we came back, we headed up to our room - there's one lift for the whole building, so you might need to wait at times. We had a room on the 2nd floor (3rd if you're American) for 6 of our group.

The room had 3 bunk-beds, which were relatively new and didn't creak too much. There were lockers, which wouldn't fit a suitcase or large rucksack, but were big enough for small backpacks. The bed linen was clean, as was the room itself and the beds were comfortable. There was a massive heater / air con unit by the window - it was pretty noisy, so we found it was best to whack it on high for a while, then switch it off. We didn't hear much noise from other rooms and I slept well.

There were 2 men's bathrooms on our floor - one just had toilets and sinks in it, the other had showers as well. The shower cubicles were a good size - there was space to hang up your clothes so that they didn't get wet and the water pressure was good, with plenty of hot water.

Downstairs, there's a lobby with a security door, which is good. There's no breakfast at this hostel, but there's an awesome cafe - it's got pastries, baguettes, juices, fruits, soft drinks and teas & coffees and is open nearly all hours, so you won't starve - if you do miss it, there are vending machines (and hey, it's NYC, there'll be something open!). There's a pool table and some sofas and downstairs, more sofas and a projector screen (they showed films one night).

The wifi had good range and the speed was good. Location-wise, it's about 2-3 mins walk to 103rd St subway station (Line 1), or about 5-8 mins walk to 103 St subway station for Lines A, B or C - both stations are local ones.

Overall, this was a nice hostel - it's not in the best location, but for the price, it's pretty easy to get to where you want to go.

I stayed here for a week and honestly it was fantastic! I booked a six bed dorm and they upgraded me to a 4 bed. The room was small but super clean and the bathrooms were also spotless. Large, fully equipped kitchen downstairs if you want to cook but there's heaps of cheap eateries close by. The hostel outings weren't the best- pub crawl on the Sunday wasn't amazing nor was the Bronx tour but I met plenty of cool people on them which made it worthwhile. The location is pretty good too and never felt unsafe. Would definitely recommend!

The hostel is clean and feels safe, which are crucial things for me. A night in a 10-bed dorm room costs $40 which is way too much in my opinion, but still probably the cheapest reasonable accommodation at Manhattan. Within walking distance from upper central park, plenty of shops and restaurants at Broadway, and red and green subway lines, the location is very convenient. No breakfast, free and fast wi-fi throughout the building, quite large kitchen, and reasonably good coffee/sandwich shop all add up to a very usable place. Besides the price, the only disadvantage I can think of is that the beds and lockers are quite noisy, so if you share the room with 9 other people, you won't be sleeping too much.

Overall, recommended, since you will probably not find a comparable place for a significantly better price (but if yes, please let me know!).

Great location and atmosphere! Suitable just for sleepover in NY, not for a long stay though. The best thing was the board with all the activities, events and venues not to miss during staying in New York

This hostel located in upper west manhattan was so amazing! i have been travelling through europe and staying in hostels and this one (although a bit more expensive - expect that though its new york) was awesome!! The hostel is located right next to the subway on 103 st/broadway av which means you can get to midtown with time square and empire state building etc in less than 15mins... the hostel organised something every night from pub crawls (i couldn't go cause USA is 21+ which sucks!!) they had a comedy night i went to which was funny and the staff was really helpful. Breakfast is not included but the cafe downstairs is a fair price and offers good breakfast options! All in all worth checking out if you want to stay in new york in the whole atmosphere of a big city! also streets safe at night which is always good to know :) Beds a bit squeaky but rooms are spacious and public bathrooms are clean and up to date

We spent 4 days here in mid December. There was snow on the ground but the Hostel was warm, welcoming and very well located near transport and Central Park. Our room had a queen bed and two bunks - it was very well appointed, with high ceilings and excellent facilities, including a beautifully fitted bathroom.
We loved this place because it was very comfortable and had a good vibe (e.g free comedy on our first night) as well as a great cafe and kitchen. Great staff and very good value.

I stayed for one night through a CCUSA trip in a 8 bed room with all girls. It was clean and I felt safe as a female travelling on my own. The bathrooms were also clean and the cafe downstairs had a bit of everything. This was an impressive experience for my first hostel stay.
