I stayed there twice in a room for 4 people. I have to say, it is not a type of hostel where you can stay for more than one night. Everything was ok, they have really great public area- cute restaurant, service, international breakfast for free. If you want, you can lock your luggage into small lockers for 5 dollars per day. Everything was a little bit expensive, but I know, it is NYC. I could stand everything but that horrible air condition. It had no button to turn it off. We slept in 3 jackets and it was the worst cold night in the middle of August ever!

This hostel has been the best hostel I have stayed in.

Although the rooms are small they have lockers that you can put your suitcases in. The bathrooms are always kept clean and tidy.

The cafe is nice, the food is well priced and there is heaps of great places around to eat. The staff are very friendly and helpful and you are always greeted with a smile.

They do hire out the function room on the first floor for birthday parties so be prepared to see lots of people walking around the hostel. They have quiet time from 11pm - 8am so the parties all finish at 11pm.

All in all a great hostel. I will be back

Rooms as you would expect. Safe area, no trouble at all, a police watch zone is also in the area so always felt safe. 2 minute walk from central park. Close to many shops and restaurants in Amsterdam Avenue, subways close. Concierge are extremely helpful and knowledgeable, lots of tours set up by local people to experience things such as Harlem Gospel Church Service; a must by the way!!!

Lift is very slow however…shame they don't sell alcohol either or have a bar. Much needed at times! Lots of young people in hostel too (under 17). Get a bit under your feet at times but that can be the hostel way I guess.

So many people expect hostels to be like hotels….they aren't! If you are looking for a good hostel with lots of activities then this is the place.

Room Tip: A good way to save money in a hostel is book a room in a mixed/large room!

After my long haul flight and arrived in heavy rain, I felt relieved that I choose this hostel. From the subway station (A line, 103rd St), it is located only one block away to the left in a quite and safe location. The receptionist was nice, she helped me to change 100-dollar bill into smaller ones. I took 6-bed male room and it comes with simple breakfast vouchers. Compared to other hostels in Manhattan, the price is quite competitive and already include AC/heater (no more tax as it is considered as non-profit institutions). The bedrooms are not new but clean and comfortable enough. The aircond unit was quite old and a bit noisy, not very comfortable if your bed is located next to the unit. I really like their bathrooms and kitchen, big, clean and bright. The kitchen is well-stocked with large numbers of cooking and eating utensils.

They have daily programs for sightseeing and enjoying your trip there (including clubbing activities in local bar). There are many restaurants and supermarkets nearby--some are open 24 hours, while the also have good cafe on the first floor. The wifi signal was quite good but you may experience difficulties when access foreign websites from home here. All in all, it was a great stay, will definitely stay there again next time.
