“Amazing hostel, stayed there 3 times”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2012

This place is amazing. I stayed here three times in the past two years and will be staying here again when I come back in the summer.

A little more expensive and crowded than your typical hostel, but it's New York. Staff is friendly, the premises are clean, and it's a great building overall. In your room you get a locker and a power outlet right there. If you don't have a lock, you can buy one for a few bucks.

There is internet access if you didn't have a computer like me, I believe it was a dollar for every ten minutes. If you need to store your bags before or after check-in/check-out, it's 5 bucks in an automated locker.

I was here during the hurricane back in August and the hostel was very accommodating. Can't wait to be back here in the summer. I think staying here added to the experience, tons of things to do while the entire city was shut down.

It is also in a great, safe neighborhood called Morningside Heights which is where Columbia University is. Only a 20-minute ride to Times Square.

I couldn't believe how good this hostel is! It's almost a hotel, not a hostel. It is (extremely) clean, well decorated, and has a nice cozy atmosphere. I just stayed there for a night, so I didn't get to know all the facilities, but there seemed to be plenty to explore (such as theater!). Staff was cranky, but efficient. Breakfast was really, really simple, but very, very cheap. Check in and check out were really fast, the bedroom was neat and tidy, there were a couple of vending machines (only junk food, but these could come in handy if you wanted something after 11pm, when the cafeteria closes). The neighborhood is scary at night, but ok during daylight. There were no mice (!!) or bathroom lines. The only problem (and it's quite a big one) is their heating - either smothering hot or Siberian cold. I had to sleep with my overcoat, and even still it was so cold I got a sore throat the next day. There was only one thin blanket that certainly wasn't enough for a winter night without heating. The beds were not very good also, they were too noisy. Besides that, it was really good. I was a girl traveling alone, and I felt very safe there.

I've read this reviews before I choose this Hostel and I don't regret at all. Everything was quite, nice and clean! Blankets, soap, towel everything for use even hairdryer! I didn't expect that! Amazing! I stayed on the third floor so I've no idea how other floors look but I would recommend this Hostel. Stuff wasn't so friendly. Of course not everyone, but who cares you don't have to talk with them If you don't want to. But manager of the hostel named Patrick was very very very friendly and helpful with everything! He tried to help everyone and he had very good advices where to go and what is the best solution. Thank you Patrick! And as a plus they have a scale so you can weigh your luggage! It helped me a lot!

Clean comfortable facilities, good amenities including free wi-fi, close to Metro, 24 hour guest service. Couldn't ask for more.

The hostel is very close to 103st subway station, wich is very useful! The room are clean, the beds are nice and the bathrooms also very clean.
The service is nice as well, and they organize events, crawls and other activities to the guests.
I recommend for those who likes a nice accomodation without spending too much money.

My sister and I stayed at this hostel in October as it was definitely budget-friendly for us. The location is really convenient and close to transit. It made it really easy getting from the airport to the hostel - only one transfer at Penn Station!

Like many of the other reviews stated, the hostel is crowded. The first night we got to the hostel (a Saturday) the bathrooms were PACKED with a long line-up for one of 4 showers. I didn't notice it as bad the rest of the week we were there but then again, we chose to shower either early afternoon or later in the night, so to avoid the rush.

One thing I thought was great about the hostel is that the lockers in your room are big enough to fit your suitcase in plus a few extra things (i.e. jacket, shopping bags, etc). I thought this was really nice so I never had to be concerned about items being stolen as they were safely locked away.

We decided to overnight at the airport so had no issues with checking out a day early. We left our luggage in the basement and paid $5 for the day for them to be locked away. No issues there!

I would recommend for friends looking for a convenient location without it breaking the bank. That being said, it's an inner-city hostel (in not the cleanest of neighbourhoods) - so don't expect a 5-star experience for such a low price!
