“A Terrific Option for the Realistic Traveler”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

The Milburn Hotel is a terrific option for the realistic traveler who wants quality accommodations in a nice Manhattan neighborhood but doesn’t want to spend a king’s ransom on a hotel room. After looking at dozens of hotels online and reading lots of reviews, I chose the Milburn because it seemed to offer the best combination of reasonable rates, clean comfortable rooms and some nice amenities.
It turned out to be a good decision and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Milburn.
I had reserved the standard studio king since it was the least expensive room available but I was delighted when the desk agent informed me I had been upgraded to a suite at the same rate. The suite consisted of a spacious sleeping room and a connecting sitting room plus a small kitchenette with microwave, coffee maker and a small frig. There were flat panel televisions with cable in each room as well as a small stereo in the sitting room. The bathroom was quite small (seems often to be the case in New York) but had been tastefully updated. Linens and towels were good quality and in good condition.
Free Wi-Fi, complimentary continental breakfast and afternoon coffee and tea service added real value and the accommodating desk staff were helpful and efficient. The lobby is lovely and has the genteel feeling of a nice residential hotel. The neighborhood is residential and quiet but the hotel is only about 3 blocks from a subway station.
Obviously, this is not a 5 star property so it’s important to be a realistic traveler. There are only 2 older elevators that are quite small and rather slow. The hallways, although updated, seem narrow and somewhat dark compared to more contemporary hotels. Room furnishings are adequate but uninspired and the love seat in my sitting room had stains on the cushions. The free Wi-Fi was great but guests are required to pick up a new access code at the reception desk every 2 days which was a bit of a hassle.
The room where the continental breakfast is served is a bit small and always seemed too warm and table space is limited. While the upper west side location is comparatively peaceful, it isn’t the ideal location for people who want to be in the center of things.

Room Tip: Whenever possible, book directly with the hotel. Their cancellation policy is more lenient that mos...

We stayed at the Milburn for three nights in December 2013. We had a one bedroom suite on the tenth floor which was spacious, quiet, and had a separate living room with a twin pull out couch that was perfect for our daughter. The room also had a mini fridge, coffeemaker, and microwave, helpful for storing leftovers or having a little something in the room. The room was charming, older NY style with some definitely updated elements in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. Staff were helpful, we were able to store our luggage safely at check in and check out. Staff were also very helpful at breakfast, making waffles and otherwise facilitating. Breakfast was simple and totally adequate. This hotel is in a great Upper West Side location, perfect for access to great meals, fun sights and shopping, and easy transportation to other areas of the city. I will absolutely stay here again.

The Milburn was recommended to my by a friend when I was headed to visit him in NYC. I have stayed there three times now and have never had a negative experience. The hotel is clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. It is only a few blocks from central Park West and I love to walk all over the city!

Expensive New York hotel with average rooms. Room was dark and dingy, faced a courtyard, but was quiet. The service was fine, but the room wasn't heated properly during the dead of winter and we were told they only had one extra blanket, a very thin and worthless piece of fabric that didn't keep the kids warm enough, Needless to say we all ended up in the one bed with a comforter.
The "free Wifi" is a scam -- it doesn't work, never has, and after 2 years of staying here in different rooms we are done accepting that it was a "fluke" that there is no consistent internet access. It is spotty at best and doesn't work for more than 5 minutes before blacking out. They are being dishonest about the internet access. Also the TV shows just the most basic local channels and is spotty as well.
Rooms are cleaned by housekeeping but they are run down enough that the rusted faucets and dusty moldings on the walls and floors just feel like laziness. Being in a good location isn't enough, this hotel needs to put a little more effort in if they want to keep customers coming back more than once.

Room Tip: Get a room facing 74th street, not the courtyard, so it isn't pitch black night and day.

We booked a single night here as we were meeting relatives to go to dinner and the theatre. What a pleasant surprise. As we had tickets for Top of the Rock, we arrived early and were pleasantly surprised to find our room was ready!!! The rooms are clean, have small kitchenettes and nice bathrooms. The beds are comfy and there are flatscreen tvs. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. There is a breakfast buffet on the first floor. Very conveniently located with stores, restaurants and only 3 blocks to the subway, what more could you ask for. Taxis are readily available on Broadway if you prefer.

We recently visited New York city over the holidays and found the Milburn to be a very comfortable and peaceful place to stay during such a busy time of year. The hotel rooms were very quiet and comfortable. The kitchenette was quite small, but had the necessities such as mini fridge, microwave and a few dishes. Ideal for reheating prepared food picked up at one of the many local gourmet grocery stores (one does not go to New York to cook meals!) The staff were extremely friendly and polite. The breakfast room tends to be very busy and there was a line up each morning we went. However the staff are quite accommodating and cleaned up tables as soon as people leave. The location is perfect if you want to escape the craziness of Times Square - just a few blocks walk to the subway, near many nice shops and restaurants, a nice stroll to Central Park. I can't wait to return!

I went in NY at the Milburn Hotel, at the end of October for the NY Marathon. The hotel was good, but it only offer breakfast, in a really small room that does not permit to find easily a table. If you go downstairs, in the breakfast room, very early in the morning you can found a table, otherwise you have to wait. Very often, outside the breakfast room, you can found a long queue of people that wait a table. The employees are very kind and the room are clean. The bathroom is very small ( I was in a triple room). I think that there is something to revisit for improve the quality of the hotel.
