The location was perfect - great access to the 72nd Street Subway and just around the corner from Broadway. The street was quiet yet we were close to everything. We walked along the Hudson River park every evening. Staff were friendly and the breakfast in the morning was convenient. Prices were reasonable for NYC. We were there during record breaking heat and the newly installed central AC was great. The hotel is not new but we found it to be clean. The bedding was new and very fresh. The "kitchen" was small but it was adequate for our needs as we had what we needed. One elevator was being rebuilt and we had to wait during busy times but not excessively. We will definately consider staying again.

A few years ago I stayed at the Beacon Hotel (just a couple of blocks down Broadway from the Milburn) right after it reopened following a major renovation. It was then really cheap and I loved it. Especially the kitchenette (in every room)--I'm one of those visitors to New York who likes to shop for and eat the same foods New Yorkers do: fruit, pastries, deli take-outs, bagels, etc. etc. This requires somewhere to store food and preferably some plates and utensils to eat with. So the Beacon was great, but it has become way too expensive for me. I consider myself very lucky to have now found the Milburn. Same great location for groceries--Zabar's is just north on Broadway, Fairway just south! And kitchenettes! OK, so the kitchenettes aren't quite as good as the Beacon's. You do, however, get a fridge, a microwave, a sink and some basic dishes. And you get a clean room, a mostly renovated bathroom (for some reason, probably cost, they chose to put in new sinks and tile but not new toilets or tubs or shower tile). Great central air conditioning. And a very spacious room. For (in my case), less than $200 per night. And free breakfast is included--with real New York bagels, good pastries, better than average coffee, yogurt, fruit, toast, etc. What a deal! Only downside: the mattress was way too soft. If I had stayed longer, I would have asked to change to a room with a firmer bed.

I've been staying at The Milburn for decades and it's never disappointed. It's not a slick, posh, boutique hotel, but rather a homey, quiet well run establishment that chugs along putting up
regulars plus an amazing array of tourists from around the world. I love the small kitchens, especially since the hotel is located a few blocks south of Zabar's food capitol of the upper west side. Suffice to say that I've stayed at the Milburn dozens of times and will return again.

Room Tip: ask for a room on a high floor facing the street....honking horns and blaring sirens are part of the new york experience, but if you keep the windows closed, you won't hear a sound.

I saw 2 matresses on two seperate floors removed as well as the bedding. Several of our friends and their kids had bites all throughout the week. Terrible experience and the hotel was dirty! Never ever waste your money on this hotel!

Management response:Responded July 7, 2012

The reviewer was probably unaware of the hotel's very popular policy of adding, removing, and changing mattresses and beds to meet requests by guests, especially families, for special or extra bedding arrangements, which is what he viewed here. No report was made to management of any problem with insect bites, and the Milburn has been free of any such problems because of a diligent, strictly monitored inspection program to ensure cleanliness.

We visited New York last September for a week and a friend recommended this hotel. We felt right at home here. The staff are helpful, friendly and professional. Our room for the first night of our 1 week stay was very small but we were moved to a larger room for the remaining days. It was great to have breakfast included so that we could get our day started quickly, The location is great (76th and Broadway) and there is a grocery store nearby which was convenient as well. If we go back to New York I would stay here. (By the way, I got a great rate of $200 per night (including taxes) by phoning the hotel directly)
