This hotel is small and for the most part has what you need for a reasonable hotel stay in NYC. It's between 9th and 10th ave on 36th and it's tucked in between a bunch of buildings.

The rooms are small and feel a touch cramped with 2 beds, but being in NYC I can understand that. It's only a few block to 8th ave and is in a fairly quiet part of town with a quick walk or cab ride to where ever you need to go. Their are a number of places to eat toward 8th ave and a great little coffee shop around the corner call The Cafe Grind.

I would certainly consider staying here again. The beds are comfortable, the water is Hot and if you get a higher floor you can see some of the city. I don't believe their much else in the way of amenities as they don't have the room for it being such a small place.

Room Tip: 10th floor

Dear Jordan G,
Thank you for choosing to stay with us at The Gem Hotel Hudson Yards. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. I’m also glad to see you were able to walk around our neighborhood and see the nice restaurants and bars and cafes we have around us. I see you walked to 8th ave to find places to eat but did you know there are a lot of restaurants right on 9th ave, a block closer? Next time your with us be sure to ask anyone of our front desk agents and they can point you in the right direction. Thank you once again for your feedback and we hope to see you again in the near future.

Nice, clean and in a good location near Penn Station. Very kind and helpful people.
It is ideal to move along Manhattan, the other boroughs and the JFK airport because Penn Station is at 8 minutes.
Of course we will come back.

Dear Eperera86,
Thank you for staying with us at The Gem Hotel Hudson Yards. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. I’m also glad that you found Penn station to be so close to us, but did you know that we are just a few blocks away from the NYC train system, or just blocks away from Port Authority? Next time be sure to stop by our front desk so we can show you other places of interest to go to. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to see you again in the near future.

On my first visit to the U.S.A., I found this hotel room very small, there was a lack of space to put suit cases. The bathroom was in need of attention. As you expect to pay more because you are staying in NY, you expect better quality accommodation.
Travelers tip: Don't use the safe unless you are prepared to pay a $2 fee per day which we were unaware of when we arrived.
I would like to thank Chris for her assistance and cheerful manner.

Dear Ann A,
Let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I will follow up with my housekeeping team to assure that we are doing a better job in regards to the bathroom areas of the room. I will also follow up with my front desk team to assure that we are explaining what the safe fees are in the room upon check in. We hope to see you again in the future so we may have another chance to provide you with a better stay. Thank you for choosing us.

A cute boutique hotel. Great location if you want to partake in the nightlife nearby and you don't mind the noise (but really there is no quiet in NYC!) We stayed only one night thankfully, and didn't spend much time in our room. The room had no closet of any kind, and the bathroom just has a sliding door to save on space. There is no space for a suitcase if you had one - Small for European standards even! It was clean and the price was right.

Room Tip: Looking at the floorplan, it seems all the rooms are roughly the same size.

I stayed here for 4 nights in September 2013 and had a great time. Not sure what this hotel was before, but you could tell it had been renovated. The room didn't have much of a view, but it didn't matter too much because no one comes to NYC to stay in the room. Room was fairly small, which is common for Manhattan area hotels, but the bathroom was actually pretty large.

It was a pretty no frills hotel, but what definitely made up for that was a staff. Entire front end team was uniquely New York and were super genuine! They all knew the hidden restaurants and "non-tourist" parts of new york and were happy to share it. The street the hotel is on looks a like sketchy at first glance, but you quickly realize that you are right on the edge of the Chelsea/Meatpacking districts. Overall, decent hotel close to everything and a great staff.
