Service was impeccable-everyone from the Manager on duty, guest service reps to the servers. I expected the typical New York attitude, but was wrong. The staff was friendly and hospitable. The Steve's breakfast was delicious and the portions were just right. I would return there in a heartbeat!

We stayed at the Doubletree Chelsea for two nights as part of an organized bus tour. The hotel is on 29th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and Mac's; and about 20-25 minutes to Times Square.

The rooms were small but clean, and the bed was comfortable. There was a restaurant at the hotel although we didn't eat there so can't comment on quality or value. WiFi was available, although at a cost - we just used the free WiFi at Starbucks around the corner.

The lobby is extremely small, more than half a dozen people and luggage makes it extremely difficult to move around and the lifts are very slow. Our room was on the second floor facing the street, which was not only noisy, but the room smelt strongy of cigarette smoke, particularly when first entering the room after a day out. We think the cigarette smoke was coming into the room through the air conditioning unit as our room was immediately above people smoking outside the lobby entrance.

Sue M, thank you for your post, and your positive comments regarding the cleanliness of the rooms, and comfortable bed. We're sorry you had the experience with smoke smell and will certainly do our best to avoid this same situation with smoking close to the hotel entrance in the future. We hope to see you on a future visit!

The Chelsea DTH is a clean and relaxing great place to stay. With views of 1 World Trade Center from your window and courteous staff. When we come back, we will stay here again. Pretty much central to everything without the touristy feel and little off the beaten path to make a great place.

Room Tip: The Higher the floor the better the views.

We had a kingsize suite with a view of the empire state building on the 26th floor for three nights and it was superb!
The reception was friendly and prompt. The lifts are a little slow to catch as there are only two serving the hotel but this is New York and frankly not something worth thinking about.
The room was perfect size(NY is not known for big hotel rooms so hadn't expected much so wasn't disappointed)
Location is really handy, walking distance to Penn station, the highline(northmost section) and time square.
Bed was very comfy, we even ended up staying in one night watching tv and was wonderful.
only down point is the WIFI isn't free in the rooms but available in the reception area. Guess that's common though not just with this hotel.
Would stay here again for sure, it's worth going for the high level king suites with a view of the empire state building, really adds to the experience. Was a bit pricey but think if you shop about you may get a better deal then we did. We were woken up by drilling on one of the mornings at 8am but not sure if it was from a neighbouring building or not. No pool and didn't try the gym/spa so cant comment on that

Room Tip: high level empire state view is a must

I've stayed here twice: first in February 2011 and again in September 2012. I was pleased with the hotel both times. What I find most helpful is how close this hotel is to the Vamoose Bus stop for when I bus up to NYC from DC. Plus, the hotel is near the Macys at Harold Square and not far from Times Square, either. My room was clean, the wi-fi was more than sufficient. Also, as an HHonors Gold, I got free breakfast. In fact, I was impressed with how friendly and helpful the waitresses were in the restaurant during breakfast.

John S, we appreciate so much that you are a Hilton Honors member, and that you chose us not just once, but twice! It is convenient to Vamoose from here! Our Breakfast crew should be starting your day with a smile and we are so glad they did. Please return soon!

I stayed three nights during a recent visit to NYC. I have never stayed at this property but due to the US Open and Labor Day Weekend, many hotels were booked.

The lobby is about 10 feet square and god forbid you are there when anyone else is checking in or out as the lobby becomes a sardine can. Not once during my stay did i encounter a doorman or a bellman to help anyone with their luggage so it was quite an ordeal getting a room.

The entire check-in experience was done without ever once making eye contact with me. At one point I looked over in the mirror to ensure i didnt have something grotesque hanging from my face as it was that noticeable.

The elevators are also some of the slowest I have ever encountered which sucks when you are on the 24th floor of a 26th floor building. My room was small (not complaining I travel to NY often) and my bathroom barely was big enough to turn around in. The room also looked over onto what appeared to be an outdoor nightclub that pounded music until at least 2am. I was told they were booked to capacity so no other room was available.

The hotel has no concierge and the front desk staff is ignorant to even the basic question -- seeking something to eat when i arrived at 11pm i asked if there were any good restaurants near by open at 11, he had no idea and suggested i just walk around -- there were at least 20 within a block of the hotel....and he couldn't suggest one?!?!

Disappointing service but the bed was comfortable, and the room was relatively clean and it was HOT in NYC that weekend and I was grateful for the air conditioning which cooled the room down to about 60 degrees in no time flat!!! Not hard I suppose when the room is only about 150 square feet but was grateful nonetheless.

Thank you, chgotrvlr71, for letting us know about your experience. One of our pet peeves is no eye contact and it is definitely something we will address, in addition to making sure our staff are better informed regarding local eateries that are open late! We appreciate the opportunity to improve our service, day and night. I'm glad to hear that you found the bed comfortable and the air conditioning cool, and hope you will return soon!

Currently staying on the 24th floor and there is a roof top club/ bar playing loud music with a ton of bass across from our room. Even with the ac on there is so much noise. After traveling all day would love some rest.

KM 1984, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience, and we apologize for our loud neighbors! We do keep ear plugs at the Front Desk for noise complaints due to circumstances beyond our control, and hope that you will give us another chance. We will make sure you get a restful night of sleep on your next visit by putting you in a quiet room!
