“Fabulous shop for unique products”

An American Craftsman
Reviewed October 1, 2012

On our way back to our hotel after an evening walk and came across this fabby shop. I went in looking for that "something different" and I found it, by the bucket load!. It was so good to find somewhere that had individual items that were not mass marketed. Yes the items look similiar to things you can get elsewhere, but the quality is very good, the items are individual and vary from wood, glass, metal work, jewellry, furniture, gifts etc. I loved it, so much so, went back again and came out with 3 pictures and a set of gorgeous glass coasters ( which you can not get this design and quality in the UK ). Price - yes , you do have to pay for the quality so you won't necessary find the bargain here, however the qualtiy of items we have bought, should last a life time.
My daughter is at Art Uni and had a ball wandering around goggling the stock !
Would definitely go back if I am lucky enough to get back to NYC

I saw the store walking to the Top of the Rock from TImes Square! We were fortunate to stumble pass it again on the way back to Times Square (Off 52th ave). I got to stop in the second time. What a wonderful creative shop with original items of high quality everywhere. There were both big and small gifts of all price range. Nothing tacky or cheaply made. I was able to get some one of a kind gifts here that were reasonably priced that weren't massed produced. I purchased a wonderful handmade glass mermaid that has amazing detail. Not your typical souvenir but a memory of this wonderful store in NYC. Who needs a tee shirt when they can have a mermaid! I think I may get the wonderful glass sea horse to go with her on my birthday! Thank You American Craftsman!

Cheaply made, overpriced Made In China work mixed in with good American crafts. Staff will be dishonest about where a product is made. There are good, Made in America crafts there, and you can shop there but be careful and know what you're getting or you'll get taken.

Shopping in New York can be expensive and tricky. There were a few pieces of memorabilia that I wanted; tee shirts, hats, these however have a limited lifespan. While strolling near our hotel, The Sheraton Hotel and Towers, I wandered into an interesting, pristine, friendly store. American Craftsman is just wonderful with something for everyone. “Child in a candy store”, came into my mind, I was in awe. Every item is handcrafted in the U.S. and magnificent. The sampling of artistry is like looking at a future museum. The prices were definitely fair for this type of craftsmanship. My husband enjoyed the store also, even though my problem in making a choice annoyed his hunger pains. Finally I chose a lovely set of cobalt, hand blown coasters to match my collection. They’re stunning and a definite asset to our décor. Thirty six dollars for four was a fair price. I’ll return each time I’m in New York City. There are also stores at Rockefeller Center, Stockbridge,Ma., and Savannah, Georgia. The pictures tell the story much better than I.
