Description: Scarpetta is LDV Hospitality's signature restaurant concept that first launched in New York's Meatpacking District. The Italian expression, "fare la scarpetta," describes the gesture of taking the little boot-shaped piece of bread to soak up the remaining sauce left in the pot of one's home kitchen. In 2008, Scarpetta received a James Beard nomination for 'Best New Restaurant in America' as well as a coveted three-star review from the New York Times.

“Great food as expected”

We gobbled down our dinners and an appetizer in a matter of minutes. Everything was delicious. If I had one gripe it was portion size. I had the short rib agnolotti. It was as good a thing I have tasted. However, notwithstanding my desire to eat 5 orders, I can honestly say the portion was tiny, in my opinion. It was small enough that 2 hours later I ordered in a pizza. Otherwise, service, atmosphere, taste, etc were all superb.

During our recent visit to NYC, my husband and I had dinner at Scarpetta. This place serves some of the best pasta I've ever had, service impeccable and the restaurant was elegant without being flashy. Telling you that we had a great experience, does not begin to cover it.

We started with the bib lettuce salad (simple, fresh, clean, with sweet tomatoes), we each had the spaghetti. The spaghetti portion is not small, contrary to some of the reviews. Is it stuff-your-face-full-til-you-get-sick big? No, but it's a hearty and generous portion of spaghetti. To be honest, we did not need to order anything more. But we did... because the food is incredible.

We then ordered the raviolini with the parmesan froth (simple, creamy, delicate and mild), and finally the black farfalle with lobster, topped with basil bread crumbs (a fun dish... who doesn't like black pasta? Sweet, tender lobster pieces with the crunch of the bread crumbs). And just when you thought we had more than enough, we figured: we're here already, let's go for the dessert. We ordered the drunken carrot cake with sheep's milk yogurt and roasted pineapples.

Food at Scarpetta was so delicious that I wanted to keep eating and eating, without ever getting full!

You're on a budget? No problem, go sit at the bar, order a glass of wine and share the spaghetti with a friend. You'll get complimentary bread with a trio of dipping sauces, you'll get polished yet down to earth service, and you can't beat the ambiance. You will eat the best spaghetti of your life.

You're not on a budget? Then go very hungry and order away!

The restaurant has low, romantic lighting, I apologize in advance for my pictures with the low lights.

“Understated Elegance That Tasted Great”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

First visit. Big fan of Conant from Chopped though wondered if his arrogance would come through in his food. It did in a good way. Polenta appetizer was incredibly rich with mushroom topping. Had to try his staple spaghetti - excellent with great sauce and herb mixture that made it pop with freshness. Went to entree of pork medallions that were perfect. We split everything so we would have room for desert. Even splitting we were full as opposed to most restuarants of this caliber that look pretty with not much substance. Here you got great food, great atmosphere and plenty to eat.

Comfortable upscale. Did not feel like a church and filled up quickly. Wait staff was exceptional. Our waiter really enjoyed talking to us about the food, the history and helping us choose some things we may not have normally done.

You will enjoy.
