“The Strand Hotel in NY - the best I've been to in Manhattan!”
Reviewed June 21, 2014 via mobile

I've been to NY at least 10 times. This hotel is THE best I've been to in this price category (appr. $300 per night). Rooms are good, but that's not the major thing: their staff is amazing! Especially for NY! Really really nice, friendly, helpful, yet fun and simply great guys!
Thanks, guys, you've made my day and my trip!

The Strand is absolutely one of our favourite hotels. The staff is very professional and kind, the location is perfect, the bar on the roof is top and has an amazing view of Empire State Building. The room was little bit small but had everything we needed. We will definitely stay here again.

First trip to the USA and so super excited. My cousin booked this hotel because she knows I love hotels with great views and the Strand Hotel does not disappoint. We paid extra to have the Empire State view from our room and I never got tired of openning the curtains to look out each day and marvel at the architecture or pinch myself that I was actually in New York. I could have sat all long in the arm chair with a cup of tea just admiring the view from my room but the hustle and bustle of the streets were calling me as were my taste buds.

Hotel staff were amazing, friendly, professional, helpful and kind. The same cannot be said for the restaurant staff on site but their food was nice and that is all I will say about them. The Rooftop Bar is incredible, we visited several times to enjoy beverages, the view, the music and it was always full of a great crowd of people just enjoying the New York vibe.

Would stay again for sure, excellent location. We stayed on the 16th floor, whilst we could hear all the fun on the roof in the elevator as we got closer to our floor we could not hear anything once we got off the lift or into our room. Clean and tidy always and being a germaphob who carries her Glen 20 antibacterial wipes everywhere I was sufficiently happy with the cleanliness (yes of course I did wipe everything down though when I first arrived). Oh and please do not let me forget macaroons on arrival in our room - yummo.

Room Tip: It's worth paying the extra for a view of the Empire State Building just outside your window.

Dear Guest,

We are thrilled that the Strand was part of your first U.S. visit. I agree that waking up with a view of the iconic Empire State Building is something very special. Our Empire Room category is extremely popular for this view but should you return encourage you to try our Premier Room category which provides you with an Empire view along with a small balcony.

The staff will be overjoyed with your many praises and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.

Have a wonderful summer!

Kind regards,

John Loizos

Will stay again. Easy taxi from LGA ($40). Stayed over the weekend. Bar on the roof has an excellent view of the Empire State Building. Great place for a night cap. Friendly front desk, and very friendly and helpful doormen. He recommended a hired car back to the airport Monday morning due to traffic. ($55). Room was clean. Windows open to get fresh air.

Stayed 2/13 w/ wife. First time in NY. Had a great time, bar on roof w/ view is worth it, though it isn't private for just tenants so you could stay at another hotel and still visit rooftop bar. Restaurant for breakfast downstairs was less than stellar food but good service and compelling decor. The whole hotel is clean, well appointed and smart. Friendly staff overall. Great overall experience.

I have been traveling on business and pleasure for over 50 years, and aside from a poor experience at a hotel in austria, this is the worst US hotel I have ever stayed at. I had a reservation for over 3 months and had requested a high floor. Instead i was given a handicapped room on the second floor. The view out the window was a filthy alley that looked 10 feet across into another filthy building. There was a dirty canopy that covered the lower floor and was loaded with pigeon droppings and garbage. All it faced was fire escapes and barbed wire. The room itself was extremely small and there was little counter space in the bathroom. The room was clean, but that's the best I can say about the accommodations. I would not stay here again if the room was free. Besides there are 2 Marriott hotls right next door.

Dear Guest,

It is always our goal to make every guest visit most comfortable. I honesty was surprised that you issued a rating which falls under terrible on the basis of your request not being met. Our understanding is that upon making your reservation, you made a request for a high floor. We receive various rooming request daily and yes even months out and do the very best to recognize and honor each of them if and when available.

It appears that we unfortunately were not able to accommodate your specific request, due to the popularity of our high rooms with views. It is however very important to note that we always recommend reserving a specific room type which in your case would have guaranteed a high floor with a view so as to not be disappointed when a request cannot be fulfilled.

As I read your comments, specifically your feedback under Room tip, we wish you would have said something to our front desk in order to have shown you other room options. I understand that you likely will not return but hope that if you did, I can personally apologize for your disappointment and show you our different rooming options.

Sincerely,
John Loizos
