“great bed, nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

nice and quiet place to stay in the heart of the city.
very comfortable bed.
tiny room and bathroom, but typical for Manhattan.
close to many great restaurants and shopping.
as well as close enough to Broadway to walk to a show.

Room Tip: try to get a room facing South for a nice view of the Empire State Building.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for recommending our south-facing rooms with their spectacular views of the Empire State Building. Those iconic views and our convenience to Times Square, Broadway shows, and Fifth Avenue shopping are characteristically what makes the Strand a wonderful New York hotel choice.
We hope to see you soon, wishing you Happy Holidays!

Many thanks,

Good location, clean, modern, simple, free true Wi-fi, very good treatment... What else do You want?

Honestly... Congratulations!

Try to get an upper room facing back. If not, could be a bit noisy!

And if you happen To be there with time And good weather... It has a very attractive terrace To have some drinks before going To sleep!!!

We stayed two nights and we have no complaints. Front desk was friendly and prompt. Room was very clean as well as other hotel areas( hallways, lobby bathroom, etc) I am glad we were able to find this hotel. We will definitely come back.

4 night stay with family in a twin room. Plasant greeting upon check in and express check in, as noticed we had had a long flight. The room whilst small in the scheme of things, but understandable for NYC was fine.

Our room was on the 15th floor overlooking 37th street, but direct view of Empire State. Didnt have breakfast, rooms cleaned daily, with bonus of chocolates at turn down. Location was on block form 5th and 6th, with lots to eat all over. I would say under 15 minutes ot Times Square by foot and Bus Station. The AC is a little loud in the rooms, but didnt affect our sleep quality.

Hotel has a 24 hours fitness room, which you access with your door card. Adequate for me and also bottled water and shower down there.

My wife had a gripe about the on demand coffee machine, whihc had no instructions, hence she had no idea on how to use.

Staff were always pleasant and friendly through the property. The roof top opens at 5pm and is very pleasant too, although no kids allowed. The Business Centre is also complimentary and available for use and printing.

Across the road is the Blacksmith Deli for breakfast and coffees, food etc, that was decent too.

All in all a very pleasant first time stay and recommended.

Room Tip: High floor for the view.

The room was very nice, modern and clean. The location can't be faulted. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. The roof top bar is just as awesome as it looks in the photos, and the barman there knows what he is doing when it comes to cocktails.

The hotel restaurant was one of the very few places in the US where I (a Brit) have found what I'd call a decent breakfast.

A couple of little niggles - there's no out of hours rooms service at all, and also no way to make tea or coffee in your room. If there's no room service, they should at least give you a kettle.

Overall though, a really nice hotel and I would happily stay there again

Room Tip: Get a room no lower than 8th floor

We stayed at The Strand for our second time in late October 2012, but before the hurricane. This location on West 37th is convenient to the theater district, the Empire State Building and MOMA. The rooftop bar is a gem and faces directly onto the lit Empire State Building at night. Staff was friendly and helpful. They offer a discounted rate for a prepaid reservation that made the price very competitive.
